doing EASY when out and about
« on: November 22, 2006, 20:14:22 pm »
Hi there, how do you girls get on with the routine when out and about?  My lo is 4 months and sleeps lovely in his cot for 1.5 - 2hrs x2 daily when at home and i usually try to not to go out before his morning nap however if we're out i.e in the car or shopping he can't sleep longer than 30 mins.  The past 2 days we've been out for a good part of both days and he's just soooooo tired hence it's effecting his nighttime sleep plus the fact i think he's teething which is total disruption in itself.  I don't want to be at home all day long every day, i feel like it's me fitting in with Fin's routine and not the other way round ::)

Debbie
For me it was all about compromise, I stayed in 1 or 2 days in a row and did Calums thing, then went out a day or too and did my thing.

I always looked at it this way; it takes 3 days for a bed habit to form, so I made sure I was never out 3 days in a row.

Good luck, it will get better.

you know, that sounds like a great idea, Lauren, thanks.. I'll definately give it a go.  Did you find your lo would readjust after your two days?

LOL I would have gladly stayed home all day every day if my lo had napped like that!

Yes, I didn't have any problems - as long as I made sure I stayed in after a day or 2 out and about - getting him back in the cot, etc.

Debbie,

as your LO is 4 months already, very soon he'll be more interested in watching the world around him when you're out than in napping. and you'll have a great opportunity to go out with him on daily basis during his A time and not interfere with his naps.

which easy are you on? when you move to 4 hrs easy you get some 1,5 hrs of actual activity (first 30 min after wake up would be feeding, nappy change etc.). that's quite a lot of time if you want to take a nice walk with your LO :)

Hi Monika, we are on 4 hour easy and he does exactley that - 1.5 hours activity and it's lovely.  Can i just also ask, travelling in the car, would you use that time as Sleep or activity... Fin can be a nightmare in the car..

Binxyboo - I do realise how lucky i am with his naps but i suffer when i'm out becuase i think it's the cot or nothing ;D x

hi there :)

I would use it as sleep if long enough to get him nap longer than 30 min... if not, try travelling in his A time.  when you say he can be a nightmare- what does he do? scream?

I'm not a good source of advice on this thou- my dd always naps nicely for us in the car.

I would say that it would be A or S depending if your LO was sleeping or awake.  When I used to log Calums EASY day, I would take his S time from when he fell asleep in the car, for whatever length of time and adjust the rest of the day accordingly or go for an extra long drive to keep him sleeping.

Thanks monika and Lauren, with regards to the car... i have him in the back as i can't turn the airbag off in the front.  He's travelling backwards so he's facing the back seat and although he's only 4 months he has a bit of that separation anxiety already! so i don't know whether he SCREAMS :o :o because he can't see me or if it's because he gets travel sick (he pukes when i get him out!) or boredom or overtiredness or what but he really loses it and i can't bear to hear him like that but sometimes i just can't pull over.  I suppose this is totally different topic but i wondered whether i should try a 5 point harness car seat because he's nearly 9kg but only 4months  ??? ???

To solve that problem you can buy a mirror that attaches to a back head headrest.  You can see LO in your rear mirror and that can see you.  Calum loved it and I have just given mine away to someone.

I got it on ebay, it is a round mirror - my friend bought one for full price Ģ15.

Hi,
my 4 months baby sleeps during the day in her cribs and when I'm going with her out, she sleeps, on what we call: baby pocket (don't know how to name it in English so I put a photo of her sleeping in it).
and there she is sleeping v well!
the problem is that she used to sleep outside only in the baby pocket and she isn't as small as she was, which is starting to be hard for me to carry her like that for 1.5-2 hours in the mall, travelling...

any solution how to put her to sleep in her buggy when we out?

I browse another photo which like this, when she awake I can "hold" her like that for ages, but in the sleeping position, it's not that it's really heavy now, but it is starting to be less computable...

thank you!
