Help is needed.....
« on: November 28, 2006, 12:50:04 pm »
My ds is 8 months now and he has not slept trough since about 4months.
Our schedule is so messed up if I look at other posts, cause by now the catnap should have been dropped and he should be eating earlier etc.

We stay about 35 minutes from our house and ds just can't seem to stay awake no matter what i do and if he does stay awake he screams right trough his bath and feeding at night and is so over tired that he does not want to go to bed!!

Really don't know what to do about his nightly wakings. He is teething, getting his 7th tooth at the moment so that plays a big roll!!!

He does not seem to fall asleep by himself. He cries and sometimes he just wants me to put him on his side and he will go right back to sleep! This goes on for about 6-8 times a night.
He wakes at 05:00 in the mornings but that's fine cause we wake up at about05:30,weekends its a bit much....

Its just getting to much for me.Working from 07:00 - 17:30 and not getting enough sleep is really a problem....

pu/pd is not working with him anymore he is to big for that!
sh/pat sometimes work but not all of the time and he still takes one bottle during the night!!!!

Am I just moaning or what can I do to help him and myself get a better night rest ???

Can you post your current routine? It sounds like you need some tweaking.

05:00   Wakes up
07:00   daycare
15:30   Pick him up
- catnap untill we get home
18:00  Supper, (i freeze his food in cubes) he eats 4 cubes -  mix of veg & meat
18:30  Bath/story
19:00  Bed time drinks a little bit of a bottle but not much
10:30  Drinks a whole bottle
and from there on about every 2 hours, moaning and sometimes heavy crying, gives him bottle to calm him down, but starting to give him water,he sucks for a few minutes and falls asleep!!

At daycare he eats cereal and also veg, fruit & meat for lunch.
His sleep pattern varies, sometimes he sleeps well and sometimes he just takes 40wings now and then....

When I read trough this it sounds SO messy, but that's how the routine goes in our house and with me working there is not much of a change that I can see happening....

PLEASE HELP

I think that 10:30 feed may be distrupting his sleep to tell you the truth.  I would slowly wean it and add the calories to your day.

I agree about that 10:30 feed. I'd bet that's a huge part of your problem. At his age it's likely disrupting his sleep cycle.

Also, I wonder if maybe he's not getting enough day sleep at daycare?

When we weaned our df we just slowly dropped the oz in the bottle which made it easy to add the calories to the day.  We started out at 6oz and then did this

5oz for 5 days
4oz for 5 days
3oz for 5 days
2oz for 3 days
1oz for 3 days

Now you could drop the number every three days and then it would only take you about 2 weeks to wean it.
