How much should a seven month be eating?
« on: December 04, 2006, 22:57:07 pm »
Well, I have seen many post about how much babies of different ages should be eating.  Reading through them makes me think that my LO is eating very little for his age.

This is his routine:
6:00AM Wake up.  Has once ice cube of meat+vegetable and 1/2 cube of fruit (which he most of the time does not finish) followed by 6.5 oz of breastmilk.
(I give the solids first, because a month ago I had the experience that he would not touch his solids at all if I gave it last)
10Am- 7 oz of breastmilk
11:30AM - 1/2 a cube of vegetable or yogurt
2PM 6.5 oz of breastmilk or formula
4:00PM - 1 ice cube of vegetable and/or fruit (which he usually does not fisnish)
6:00PM bedtime - 8 oz of breatsmilk or formula

I do not dreamfeed anymore. I also add a little bit of cereal to his solids but I do not measure it.

For FYI, my son weight about 20lb.  His last visit to the doctor showed that he was 90% in height and 75% in weight.

What do you all think?  Recommend any changes?  How many tablespoons are in an ice cube?

Thanks

I think that your lo looks like he is healthy based on his weight and height (and the cute picture).  He is drinking a good amount (looks like about 28oz).  Formula is still the most important food at this point but if you want him to eat more solids you could give him a little less formula.  My lo went through a period at about 7-8 months where he began eating less solids so his ped. suggested that I switch his solids and liquids.  I did that and he began eating more.  It was a tad earlier than I think the BW book says but it worked for my lo.

I believe an icecube is about 1 tablespoon.

Hope that helps.

Kimberly

Thanks for the info.  There is only a tablespoon in one ice cube?  I was hoping that there were two tablespoons.

I guess it depends on your ice cube tray! You could measure it next time you are filling the cubes. The only thing I did different at that age was offer the milk first, and then let lo eat solids as much or as little as he wanted. Are you pumping exclusively?

Arial, I think your LO is eating absolutely fine. My LO is going to be 8mo, but eating less than your LO. Each LO is different. As long as your LO gains weight & don't get up at night because of hunger, you don't have to worry.
