elimination diet and breastmilk
« on: December 10, 2006, 07:50:15 am »
Please can anyone advise me, I am doing the elimination diet and have seen improvement in my DD's colic but although I have lots of breastmilk when I pump it seems much thinner than normal and I'm not getting any fattier milk. The diet is quite strict with nothing fatty so I have added a little sunflower oil to my food. Has anyone done the elimination diet and found their breastmilk quality diminish? My health visitor said I should be fine as long as I drink lots of water so I've been drinking loads, do you think this could be watering down my milk? Please help, thanks  :)

I am not sure how strict an elimination diet you are on- but I went dairy/soy free and little one didn't seem to notice and milk seemed the same to me. Just make sure your puming sessions are long enough that you are pumping hindmilk in addition to foremilk- mother nature is going to make sure that your BM is full of nutrients for little one.

Thank you, I have pumped 3  lots of 4oz in the last 2 days and the first is very watery but the other two are better, I'll keep an eye on it  :)
