what should naps be like for a 4 month old?
« on: December 18, 2006, 06:00:12 am »
hi every1, just a quick question-

when my dd has a total of 2hrs 40 mins of naps during the day she sleeps great at night with only 1 feeding, but since thurs shes been sleeping a total of4hrs 40 mins of naps during the day and she now started to wake again every hr in the night.

i dont know if the waking has something to do with her getting her 3 jags on thurs or if shes having too long naps.she has been teething again and has been doing alot developmentalyy in the past couple of weeks(rolling over, feeding herself, trying to pull legs under her when shes on her belly and has found her voice-very loudly!!) i dont know if any of this has someting to do with it. :(

any advice on this would be great as i cant believe this is happening again and i....miss....my....sleep!!!!
feel free to move this if its on the wrong board. thanks

ok, this is how dd's routine was before thurs-
A-up at 6.30
E-7-6oz
A
S-8-8.25
A

E-10-5 1/2oz
A
S-11.15-12.20
A

E-1pm-3 1/2oz
A
S-2.35-2.05
A

E- 3.30-3 1/2oz
A
S-4.50-5.30
A

E-5.30pm-4oz
A
E-6.45-3oz
A-bath at 7.20
E-7.45- 3 1/2oz
S-8pm-4am

E- 4am-5oz
S-4.10-7am
i know this one isnt ideal either as she is still all over the place- i had posted on the night wakings a few weeks ago as i thought she maybe needed to go to a 3.5hr easy but they advised to work on the 3hr.
Angelina turned 4 mnths on thurs and this is how her routine has roughly been since then-
A- 5.30am(would not go back to sleep no matter how hard i tried)
E-6am- 4oz
A
S-6.55-8.45

E-9am-3oz
A
S-10.20-11.10
A

E-12.15-5 1/2OZ
A
S-1PM-2.50

E-3.30- 1OZ
A
S-4.30-5

E-5.15-5OZ
A-bath at 7.20
E-7.45-top up but cant rememeber how much
S-7.50-fell alseep-11pm

E-11pm
After the 11pm feed she was up every hour. i had put it down to the jags and then teething but even giving dd calpol has not made any difference.
i thought she was doing really well when she was only getting up once a night but to go back to every hr is just a nightmare. i did cut out the dreamfeed a good few weeks ago as i found she was hardly taking any and it seemed to disturb her sleep cycle as she would be up all the time and decided to do cluster feeding which worked well untill last thurs nite.

any advice would be greatly appreciated(i know myself that my routine really needs to be changed to better suit Angelina but i just dont know where to go from here!)
thanks. :)
meant to say dd is a touchy baby wuth a bit of textbook in her.

meant to say-i dont mind starting my day at 6 or 7 in the morn-i just dont like to see dd getting more and more upset as then day goes on-she was soo much happier when she had the longer naps-just dont know if this is affecting her night sleep.xx ???

Its funny, my daughter does the same thing. If we've been out doing stuff all day and she has had minimal naps (less then 3 hours but more than 2) she sleeps great at night quite consistently all week. However, since I've had her on 4.5 hours of sleep, its been a nightmare.  ::)

I dunno. We are on the 4 hour routine with the 4.5 hour naps (she naps her naps really well no problems) but the nights are awful.

My daughter is in bed by 7 every night, and was up every 2 hours last night until wake up (about 7 am). I am almost sure we are going through teething issues, but taking her to a clinic tonight to make sure it isnt an ear infection. She woke with diarrhea, flaming cheek and a slight fever this morning. Tylenol seemed to make it 'magically' disappear.. so who knows..

The hylands teething tablets used to work.. not so much anymore. We had her at the doc last night and he agreed it was just teething. (he says 'just' like its nothing serious) lol... we bought some 8 hour motrin and she slept super last night. her day is off this morning because she woke at 5:30 to eat so she didnt have her first 'day' feed until 9am. She was also up from 7am - 10am until she wanted to go down for a nap. Very unlike her. But she is doing her 2 hour nap now very well.

hey shimzy, i know what u mean bout docs-its not them thats up all nite with dd!! ive got one health visitor who beleives in doing everything by the book and is very critical if u dont(u can tell she doesnt have any kids-it'll be a big shock for her when she does!!) Angelina was up 3 times last nite and was up for the day at 5am(weirdly enough she wont take a feed till about an hour after getting up). shes just been doing this the past wk and no matter how hard i try cannot get her back to sleep!! same as usual 30 minute naps in the morning then when it hits 2.30 she wants a two hour nap. whats in motrin? r u in the U.S.-i dont think we can get that here.
