Does your Toddler sit in highchair/booster seat for snack?
« on: January 10, 2007, 21:59:40 pm »
Just wondering if you alow your LO to walk around with snacks? I put DD in her seat for morning snack but for afternoon she generally has dried fruit/sultanas in her snack cup which doesn't spill. She will sit for a little while on her couch but often wonder for a while before finishing. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are strictly in her seat at the table.

I am not sure if it is right or wrong...but I let Jess walk around with a snack every now and then.  We don't have strict rules about not having food in the living room, etc, so it doesn't bother me if she is munching on a piece of apple while playing. We eat breakfast, lunch and dinner at the table (in highchair).  I know she sees me snacking while not at the table...so I don't mind her doing so too. Of course if it was a popsicle or yogurt...well that's a different story  ;)

All eating takes place at the kitchen table in our house (that Tyler sees, anyway). 3 reasons...I can't stand the idea of Tyler taking food anywhere else in the house. Too messy. It's also a safety thing. It's way too easy to trip and choke on a piece of food that he hasn't chewed well enough. AND consistency. It's easier for me to say that all eating happens at the table than to say sometimes we eat here, sometimes we eat there. If he wanted to get up and wander during mealtime at home or in a restaurant, I don't see how I'd be able to tell him not to.

Good point. Maybe I should reconsider for those reasons.  It is a HUGE pet peeve of mine to see children running around at resturaunts. I imagine the snacking while running around will eventually bring up the "well...why can I do it at home and not here?" question.

Hmmmmmm......

For us, all meals are in the high chair.

Depending on how "messy" the snack is, he can either walk around with it or sit in his high chair.  For example, yogurt, he goes in his high chair.  Handful of goldfish crackers, he can stand at the living coffee table if he wants.

food MUST be eaten while sitting down (like Melissa mentioned, choking scares me!).  i'm kinda ambivalent about tables, though there are lots of things that can only be eaten at a table.  food is not allowed in the bedrooms - only the kitchen/dining room/living room (fairly open plan house)

although, as i think about it, there is a table in just about every room where they are allowed to eat food, so they usually end up sitting at that table to eat!!   :P

Thomas sits at his toddler table and chair.  When we prepare food / snacks etc, he stands at the gate by the kitchen and waits, as soon as I am ready, I tell him to go and sit down, and he goes to sit on his chair to wait for his snack.

He hated his high chair, so moved him to a small table and chairs at around 12.5 months.  Since then all meals / snacks have been a dream.

All meals are in the highchair and pretty much there is always a snack available at the living room coffee table.  Dave grabs a cracker or whatever as he is playing.

Thanks girls agree with the above and have decided all food at the table. I have always been a big believer in this and probably shouldn't start any bad habits.

Almost always in his highchair... but lately he has been eating apples alone and with the new lo in the house it's easier for me right now.... kinda nice to have an easy snack.   :)

Bram does sit in his chair for his snacks and meals, except for when he eats the crumbs and dropped stuff that is under the table ::).  sometimes we let him have his sippy with milk when he is not in the chair.

For me it is a cleanliness issue as well as a choking hazard.

Meals are in a booster.  Other stuff, including sippies of milk or juice, is sitting down (sometimes booster... especially if it's messy, sometimes a big chair... he likes that!, sometimes on the floor).  He has to sit while he eats, and if he has trouble doing that in a big chair or on the floor, he goes (gets put) into his booster.  Water in a sippy is the only thing he can carry around.  It sometimes seems as though he has trouble satisfying his thirst, & I don't want to impede that.

Meals are always in his chair, snacks are usually in a chair depending on what it is.

Snack time usually is an excuse for me to get him in his chair so he can sit still and I can have a cup of coffee and a seat.  ::)  he just runs around all day otherwise.

In our house, food is served at the table.  The only exception is when I am making dinner and she is keeping me company in the kitchen.  If she asks for a celery or carrot stick, I will certainly oblige, but even then, she is sitting on the floor at my feet.
