2-1 nap switch - not sure if ready??
« on: January 11, 2007, 19:11:19 pm »
Hi Moms -

Need some help in determing if my 11 month old is ready for a 2-1 nap switch?  His AM nap has started lengthening and then PM nap is pushing back later and getting more difficult.  He is an early riser, however, so not sure he could make it to just one midday nap?  But I would LOVE if the 1 nap would help him sleep longer into the AM!!

Here's are current routine:
5:30/6AM - wake up
9:30 - nap (sometimes 2 hrs. +)
4:00 - nap (45 - 1 hr.)
7:30/8pm - bedtime

I like two naps however I don't want the late afternoon one to start to interfere with bedtime (hasn't much yet...just once or twice).  Also, on the few occasions he has slept in until 6:30/7am, he won't nap until around 10:30 or 11am so I know if he got just a little more overnight sleep, he could probably make it 'til midday.

Any ideas?

hi there

often a long am nap is the culprit for early wakings as their bodies rely on the am nap as part of nightsleep so cutting this nap back drastically should help with that. Altho I would do it gradually. Cut to 1hr45 then 1hr30 then 1hr. also the earlier the am nap the more it 'eats away' at that nightsleep.

If u r wanting to phase out the am nap then u gradually make the am nap later and later while shortening it at the same so that in the end Lo is having mayeb a 20min nap  then going for pm nap earlier. the 2 then gradually merge until ur having lunch maybe 11.30 ish then nap 12ish for 2.5hrs +
