Our LO is much younger than yours - she's only 19 months, but she absolutely ADORES jelly, although we have never had the obsession that you are talking about - maybe only 5 or 6 days in total where all she would eat is jelly.

What I do, when I think we are getting in a  jelly rut, is to just not buy or make any more and then show DD that there is none in the cupboards and none in the fridge. Once she is satisfied that there is none, she will eat something else (even if only fromage frais). Actually, she hasn't had any jelly since Christmas, so we've not had that issue for a while.

I know you said he would starve himself if he didn't have any jelly, but maybe you should set yourself a target date for 'jelly removal operation' and deplete stocks and show your DS that they are going down and that once it is gone he can have any of the other yummy things you have to eat instead - I don't know whether or not that would work, but I am reckoning that DD's cousin (who is 3 and a half) would probably buy it....

Thanks thats actually a good idea, i tried just stopping cold turkey and showing him there was none left but then he would ask to go down to the shops to get some... i cant lie and say its shut b/c we have full view of our shops from all of our windows  ::) I swear the world is against me lol. I finally managed to get him to finish his sandwich though so maybe i can get him out of it... i mean it has been weeks now!

I guess that's the thing with nearly 3 year olds - they are VERY smart and know that you can go to the shops!! LOL

Well done on eating the sandwich, Mikey - good job!

And, I'm sure, a relieved mummy! Sounds like he might be forcing himself to eat other things... I guess you will just have to wait and see.

Good job Mikey, eating the sandwich! :D

Hey Katy, one more thought...

If the cheese sandwich doesn't do the trick for breaking the jelly habit and he goes back to demanding it for every meal, my suggestion would be to pick a plan and be prepared to stick with it through screaming and tantrums.  Once he figures out that mum isn't going to give in to his demands, he'll probably give up, and then at some point you can reintroduce jelly as a treat/dessert/whatever.

Just a thought...but maybe he's getting tired of it anyway.
Allison

yea!!! good boy!

Sounds like he just needed to win.  ::)

If you offer it as dessert after dinner maybe 2x week, maybe it won't seem so forbidden either. ???
