Unexpected 2am waking - growth spurt??
« on: January 19, 2007, 15:56:25 pm »
Hi,

Here is my LO's routine (turns 5 months tomorrow):
6am wake-up & breast&bottle feed
8am nap (1.5hr)
10am bottle feed
11.30am nap (1.5 - 2 hr)
2pm bottle feed
3pm nap (1 - 1.5 hr)
5.30pm bath
5.45pm bottle feed
6.30pm bed
10pm bottle feed

When LO one was 4 months we moved to a 4 hourly routine and she started sleeping through the night at 20 weeks, which was so unexpected and fantastic .. looks like its not going to last though.

Last night she woke at 9.30pm and was desperate for her late night feed, which I still only fed her at 10pm.  Then she woke at 2pm and was obviously hungry, downing about 200ml of milk. Another thing worth mentioning is that she also had a very long 3rd nap, 1.5hr which is unusual for her.
I've tried today to increase the amount she has at each feed but she gets really unhappy if I try to force her and to be honest, I don;t feel comfortable force-feeding ..  I seem to recall that Tracey wrote about how to cope with a growth spurt but I can't find it.

Can you please advise whether you think this is a growth spurt (I didn't expect another until about 6mo) and how to best manage it so the night wakings don't again become a habit?

Many thanks.
