Looking for ways to lengthen nap time
« on: January 21, 2007, 18:35:34 pm »
I have a four month old that I am trying to put on EASY however she is and always has been a horrible napper. I can sometimes get one 1 hour nap out of her but most are 30 minutes - MAYBE 45 minutes, which really messes up EASY - not to mention she isn't getting enough sleep. Anyone have a similar problem and suggestions how to get her naps to be longer (and she doesn't sleep on her own yet either - many many props to go to sleep)

My problem exactly!  My baby is 4 months tomorrow and i haven't been able to get him to nap longer than 45 minutes and occasionally only 30-35.  He has been co-sleeping with us and nursing whenever he awakens and goes back to sleep no problem (or never really completely wakes up).  Now we're trying to keep him in his crib which was a nightmare...up 6 times last night.  Nursing is the only way currently I can get him back to sleep at night.  Then it's only for 1-2 hours at a time.
I, too have been trying to implement EASY but a short nap throws it all off....
I don't have any answers but can sympathize with your situation.

I had exactly the same problems with my son from the time he was about 3 months old. He would wake up after 30 minutes on the dot - I could set me clock by him  ;D The only thing that worked for us was for me to creep into his room at the 25 minute mark and sit beside his cot, with my hand lightly on his chest & arms (he has always been wrapped for his naps). It was the jolt that was waking him up and he couldn't get back to sleep after this - by resting my hand on him, I seemed to lessen the jolt and he didn't stir as much, and could go into the next sleep cycle. It took a while, sometimes I was sitting there for 15 minutes before he was soundly asleep into the next cycle. We did this for a few weeks, it took a lot of time & effort but it worked for us. By the time he was 4 1/2 months old, he could nap for longer on his own.

HTH  :)
