EASY Problems.. HELP!
« on: January 21, 2007, 19:11:25 pm »

Have ds (3.5 months) on a sort of EASY schedule, problem is that he wakes at different times every day. Night feeds are at 2-3 am then at 5.30-6.30. After the last night feed he always goes back asleep until 9-10 ish, which is great as far as I'm concerned. Problem is that each day starts at a different time, feeds are around 3-3.5 hours apart, so he never feeds and consequently naps at the same time.... Adding to the problem, is bad wind and colic which means that he sometimes won't feed at all and this can have a knock on effect on the rest of the schedule... what to do?? Some days are a real mess, and I can't figure out whether it's time for a nap a feed or a big burp... HELP!

Hi there! Firstly, if u have a colicky baby u kinda have to accept that it'll rock the routine and u should deal with the pain before anything else. Secondly I would tryt o wake at the same time every day so as to stick to similar times throughout each day, thats if u want a strict routine ;)

I agree with PP.  Waking at the same time each day will help you get your DS into a routine.

With regards to colic and wind.  Have you tried some gas drops - this may help.  Are you BF or FF?  If FF, it could be that the milk may not be agreeing with your DS, and it might be worthwhile trying a formula that is easier on your DS' tummy.

Thanks for tips, yeh I think I will try to establish a set wake time in the morning, just feels wrong to wake him if he sleeps after the "wake-time", is this what other Mums do? Seems like many babies in this forum are amazingly waking in the morning just when Tracey suggests in her EASY schedule at 7am. For ds obviously this depends on what time the last night feed was at or if he was disturbed by wind pains during the night (this is less common). I'm breast feeding and loving it, but poor babs has the most terrible wind and maybe a bit of reflux, I'm using Infacol and some fennel tea after each feed... gotta keep on working on the routine though!

Have you spoken to the doctor about the possiblity of your lo having reflux.  This could be the reason that you are battling to get onto an established routine.  With the right meds it will help ensure that your lo is comfortable after a feed and will help him sleep better.
