Up down around and about (and all other possible directions)
« on: January 29, 2007, 13:29:24 pm »
Sent msg to Lana yesterday and got a replay which IM starting to apply, Moria is now 9 month old, she clearly has her own world and can lay in her bed and chat with herself and the toys around her for up to an hour occasioanlly....  sometimes at bed time she will fall asleep by herself, but she still wakes up 2-3 times in the middle of the night (2-3AM)  and then nothing helps (yet)  We havnt gotten the hang of UP/down method and we both kinda melt when she cries....  the only thing that gets her sleeping again is staying next to her and shhh'ing + holding hands.....   were both turning tired from accumulated lack of sleep...... any pointers?
Weve read the whisperer and are considering trying the methods described, but want to eliminate any other mistakes we may be doing......   the day routine looks roughly like: 7:00 wake, fruits and bottle, 10:00-10:30 1-2H nap  then around 12:00 solids sometimes with a bit of bottle afterwords, then around 16:00-17:00 1 to 2 H nap , then around 19:00 bathtime and sleep time......  btw, the day naps are usually accompanied by short (max 10 min) of shhhhing and she falls asleep....

Thanks
Merav (Moria's Mom)

Hey there great to see you around

Sounds like you are doing great.  And as far as pu/pd you always want to try to soothe in the crib first which is what you are doing.  The only thing you can do now is remain consistent at the night wakings and your work should pay off.

also I am going to move this over to night wakings for you ccause I am sure the girls over there will have some great tips to add.

Your little sweetie is adorable!!

You might want to check out the EASY forum under the Activity heading. There are sample EASY routines in there for each age range and that might help you out. It sounds like you're already doing quite well!

Merav, the only thing that came to my mind is maybe you can try and offer the 2nd nap earlier than 4pm. If your lo is up from the morning nap at 11-11.30am and then awake for 5hrs until the next nap. That is waay too much A time for a 9mo. That could also result in overtiredness and restless night. Try to offer the pm nap close to 1-2pm and see how that goes. I bet the nightwakings will dimish and be gone with once the naps are in place.

hi there i agree with layla, the second nap looks a little late, could be reason your little girl is waking at night, if you adjust the naps you might see a diff, i know it helped with my LO. let us know how it goes

I know you said it took her longer to fall asleep but if you insist on an earlier nap time, I bet the nightwakings will go (that is unless there is something else bothering her). Isabella (toddler) only started handling 5hrs A time at 15-16 months, which is when she made a transition to 1 nap. At 9 months, her A time was max 3-3.5 hrs.

Good luck  :-*

Hi All and thanks for the support!!!

It works like a charm :)   I have waited for almost 2 weeks to see if its consistant , and it is !!
Moria sleeps now through the night, from 19:30 / 20:00 till 07:00 / 07:30  in the 1st couple of nights she still woke up but fell asleep after 2-3 minutes..... needles to say we sleep much better too ....

Thanks for all the feedback,  what a great site.
