How much daytime sleep does a 5.5 week old need?
« on: January 31, 2007, 18:20:35 pm »
Hi,

Got another question, have lots!!

How much sleep does a 5.5 week old need?  Elliot's rough routine is as follows:

7am feed then back to sleep 8:30 til 10-10:30
10:30am feed then asleep again at say 11:30-12 til 1:30-2
2pm feed then asleep for about an hour 3:30/4-4.30/5.
5pm feed then top up at 6pm with bath or nappy change in between - he then goes up to bed about 6:45ish
10-10:30pm feed then straight back to bed
3-4am feed then straight back to bed waking around 7am

Adding it up he is probably asleep 16 hours out of 24.  It varies alot though so difficult to say exactly.  Some days it could be as much as 18 hours sleep!  Then others it could be 15 hours.
I try to stimulate him a little in his bouncer, after each feed, but wonder if its enough?

Also, he wants his 2pm feed earlier sometimes 1:15-1:30, this is usually when we are at someone elses house - seems to throw him completely!  Does this happen to others?

Any advice would be appreciated.

At this age the amount of sleep your lo is getting sounds about right.  At most your A time is spent after a feed doing a nappy change and perhaps a little lullaby before you wind down and get ready for the nap.

They really pretty much only eat and sleep at this age.
