not really eating finger foods
« on: January 31, 2007, 19:54:49 pm »
DS will eat almost anything mushed up but is very fussy about finger foods. He does have some finger food: crackers, toast, fries, crisps, biscuits, fish fingers but the majority of finger foods that I offer, he just isn't interested in. I don't know whether its a texture thing or whether he just isn't into the taste of them but sometimes he wont even try them. He just chucks them on the floor. He is 14 months. Is this common? Is there anything I can do to encourage him to have more?

Hey Cath- sounds like a little carb lover :)  I think it's very common.  I would just keep offering different things sooner or later he'll eat something new and like it.  What are you offering.  Claire really likes pasta.  I cook her the whole wheat spirals and she loves them. I think she thinks they are funny.

Marisa took FOREVER to pick up finger foods/table foods. She still doesn't love them and does much better with food speared onto a toddler fork.

Try finger food versions of things he likes in puree.  Spear-shapes (like fries) of fruits and vegetables are easy to grab.  I used to coat slippery foods like banana in oats to make them easier to hold.

Thanks for the suggestions. I particularly like the idea about putting oats around the banana-that's a great idea.
