Adjust Schedule or Not?
« on: February 01, 2007, 15:33:58 pm »
I am not sure if this should go here or in sleeping for toddles.  Please move it if it should be elsewhere.

My son is 11 months old.  He has been on the same schedule for the past couple of months.

6-7am Wake up
7am Solids
8am Bottle
9:30am 45min to 1 hour Nap
12pm Solids
1pm Bottle
2:30pm 1.5 to 3 hour Nap
5pm Solids
7pm Bottle
7:30pm Bed

For about the past month or so he had been waking up at about 3 or 4am and chatting for about an hour and then going back to sleep.  Then he would wake up sometime around 6am and I would leave him in his crib until 7am.  Most of the time he would chat or play, sometimes he would fall back asleep.  However about a week ago the night wakings seemed to stop and he also began sleeping in until 7am.  This meant that he pushed back his naps about a half hour.  He also began sleeping longer at his naps.  For both his morning and afternoon naps I have been waking him up about 15 minutes before the next meal.  I am not sure if it is a growth spurt or what.  My question is...should I keep the same schedule and continue to wake him OR should I move his schedule back an hour or so and let him sleep until he wakes?

Thanks!

The thing is he is really cranky when I wake him.  Sometime he will even start crying.

Have you considered trying one nap?

One nap seems a little backwards to me since he is sleeping more not less.  Can you explain why you think that would work?  Thanks.

I'm thinking that since he's taking a short nap in the morning and then a very long one in the afternoon, perhaps he's ready for one loooong nap. Just a thought.

My other thought is that maybe he's getting too much sleep at that afternoon nap. Oftentimes sleeping longer than 2 hours will mess with night sleep.

I think my first post is confusing you.  Sorry.  He was taking two naps, one short and one long and having night wakings.  Now he is taking two long naps (I wake him from both at almost 2 hours) and is sleeping all night with no night wakings.

OH - haha! Thanks for clarifying. Then yeah, I would continue to wake him from the naps. Although you could try letting him sleep for a day or two to see what happens if you want to be brave.  ;)

I think I am going to be brave and try to let him sleep.  I have been waking him for the past week or so and he is just so cranky and upset when I do that I feel bad.  We do not have any plans for tomorrow so if today is a disaster I can get him back on track tomorrow.

Can't sorry.  He is being silly and woke up on his own after a 1.5 hour nap.  He is doing this just to confuse me!   ;D
