Is my bedtime too early that causes NW?
« on: February 03, 2007, 11:43:59 am »
My LO slept from 6:30-6:00 since she was 3.5mo old. After she dropped her catnap around 6mo, we have moved her bedtime earlier. Now she is almost 10mo. old, we have slowly moved her bedtime later around 6:00-6:30. What bothers me is that she starts to wake up between 9:00-10:00 pm, and 2-3am.
This is what our days look like:
5:40-6:20 wake up, Feed- get ready to go to granny's place.
7:30 solids
9:00 nap (usually 1hr-1hr20min.)
10:30 Feed
12:00 Lunch*  My mum sometimes gives her another 3-4oz bottle if DD is hungry before her nap
2:00 nap (usually 1.5-2hr)
4 ish - solid & drive home
5:30 bath - bottle - bed around 6:30

DD's 1st A time is usually around 3hrs. Her 2nd A time is usually the longest, around 3.5-4hrs. Her 3rd A time is quite short, sometimes 2.5hr max! I sometimes have to wake her up from her 1st nap, coz if she takes a longer am nap, that means she will take her pm nap in late afternoon... and late bedtime.
I don't know whether it's because her 3rd A time is too short, so that's causing her early NW? Should I try to extend her 3rd A time to 3hrs?  DD needs to wake up around 6, coz we have to leave the house by 6:30. Any suggestions?

Does she fight going to bed at night?  It may be that she needs a little more A time before bed.  I would try to somehow lengthen that 3rd A time. You could put her down a little early (like 1:30) or not let her sleep as long for her second nap. How long is the drive home?  She is probably getting more mobile and needs more time to move about.  KWIM?

DD just falls asleep within 20min. after I put her in bed. She is tired.... I've tried later bedtime. She slept through.... no more nightwakings, but after 10-10.5hrs of sleep, she wakes up around 5 :o
I don't know which is worse, night wakings or early waking :-\  I managed to put her back to sleep this morning, after feeding (she drained her bottle)... but only slept for 20min. more until her normal wake-up time.

what does she do during these wakings? Is she playing? maybe you need to limit day sleep to max 2.5hrs.
so maybe
6wake
9nap 1hrmax
2nap 1.5hr max
6:30bedtime.

Thanks Deb,
When she wakes up, she likes to pull herself up and stands in her cot, talking to herself. Then after 30min., she realizes that she's tired and starts to cry out for help. I'll try the routine you've suggested. She's runny tummy today :'( only took 45min. nap in the morning, so we had very early afternoon nap (12-1:30) I guess I'll have to put her to bed early.  :-\
