When to move to 3naps?
« on: February 04, 2007, 12:31:31 pm »
Hiya,

My dd is 12.5  weeks and we are generally  following a 3 hourly EASY. She has one 1.5 hour nap in the a.m. then 3 45 minutes naps the rest of the day. One of these might be as short as 30 minutes if we are out and about. Anyway, she can manage 1.5 hours of awake time without freaking out so I am thinking of taking her to 3naps. Is this too young?

Thanks
Alicia

hi Alicia
Most babies of that age will have 3x 1.5 hour naps so I would be very cautious about going to 3 naps of 2 of them are only 45 mins. She will get overtired easily at her age. With most babies you tend to find that if she can manage 1.5 hours of A time on 1.5 hours of sleep, if she has a shorter nap she won't be able to handle as much A time. Have you tried extending her naps to try to get 3 good long ones in?

Thanks for the reply. I don't have much success extending naps and can't devote too much time to it as I have a very active 3yo who loves to "help" me in her room.  So, I know at some point she will have to get to three naps and was just wondering the average age for this.

I have a 45 min napper and we probably didn't go to 3 naps until about 5 months. I went to a 4 hour EASY right at 4 months, but  B/C of the 45 minute naps, he would usually still take 4.  He averaged about 3 hours of day sleep and 11 at night.
