feed asap after waking?
« on: February 12, 2007, 17:41:23 pm »
our low is almost 4 months, and is on a 3.5 hour easy. my question is, sometimes he wakes up from his nap early (for him) after 1 hour, and doesn't call for me (he can hang out there for a good 15 min if not longer) right away. wondering, do i wait till he appears hungry to feed him and just get time up? wondering if it is more important to follow the routine (to eat right away), or to try and stick to the 3.5 - 4 hour routine?

Hi there,

EASY isn't an unbreakle routine. In fact it's meant to be more of a predictable pattern with recommended times than a strict one.  It's also meant to help you read your baby's cues.  If he seems ok after waking and can hold off until his feed time then great. but if he's hungry then feed him. There's no need to make him wait for his food, he'll just get our of sorts  ;)

DD likes to play for 15-30min before she eats ever since she turned 6 months, so I just count that as her "A" time.  Her nap time stays the same though.

My little guy usually isn't starving after a nap (especially if it's short < hr) so sometimes he has up to 1/2 hr of activity before his next feed. If he doesn't act hungry, I usually try to stick to the same feeding times each day (within 15 min eithe way), I find it helps me plan my day better and also then he can go bed the same time each night too. Cause if you end up feeding right after they wake up (with short nappers), then the rest of the day gets mixed up, especially the early evening.
