New to E.A.S.Y need some help!!
« on: February 13, 2007, 09:40:41 am »
My lo is 5 weeks old and I have decided to try out E.A.S.Y we have only tried it a few days, therefore i know it will take a while to suceed, however i need a little clarification.  Our day starts and ends at different times each day, depending on lo feeding during night, she sometimes sleeps 4 hours in the night and others 3 hours,b4 her next feed therefore throwing us off track, however the last 2 evenings she seems to have been awake all night although not crying i can just hear her grumbling, should i intervene or not?

Then as she has not had a deep sleep she sometimes drops off just b4 her next feed, should i still wake her even though it is impossible to get her to eat, any ideas she is normally so tired she will take an 1oz maybe 2 then fall asleep unless i persevere which could take an hour then she gets overtired?

She is then mega overtired and takes ages to settle again sometimes just b4 her next feed, should i then still wake her?

Also more than often enough she falls asleep while feeding, and has had her 3 yawns b4 the end of a feed, do i miss A and go straight to S?

She is having 3-4 naps in day never any longer than 1hr-1 and 1/2 but i dont know how to break this cycle we seem to be in, any ideas?

Also i am making sure i swaddle her each nap, she fussys like mad and has normally worked her arms out within minutes, houdini would be proud!

She was 6lb 10oz born not sure what she is now she is due a weigh on thursday.

If my day starts at a diff time on that day do i keep up the pattern regardless?

Please help i am so confused!!!!

hi

first of all welcome :)

you do seem a bit overwhelmed with this whole situation but be sure you're doing a great job trying to help your baby nap/sleep/eat well :)

to answer your questions:
1. yes, it usually takes some time before EASY starts to work so hang on to it and don't worry you can't see much results yet
2. if you start your day at different time, you then have to adjust her routine because EASY is not a strict hourly schedule, it's a routine you can mould and adjust according to your needs. so if she wakes at 7, start your routine from there. if at 8, start from 8. you should aim for a steady wake up time thou to make her days more repeatable- babies like that :)
3. if she falls asleep at breast, try to wake her. don't let her fall asleep when feeding her as it's creating bad habits. if she drowsy, you can rub her cheeks or put her off breast for a moment, make sure she's not napping already ;) and put her back to your breast to finish the feed. and if you're/she is done, give her 10~15 minutes of activity [change her diaper, make sure she burps] and then put her down for a nap.

can you post your routine as from your post I'm not sure how often she's nursing.
