papaya? laxative or not?
« on: February 18, 2007, 09:05:16 am »
hi gave my DS papaya for breakfast yesterday morning for the first time as recommended by annabel karmel . he is 6.5 mths and last night i had the worst night ever with him. He woke every hour for about 10 mins, moaning and upset and we had no bowel movement yesterday. and i dont know whether or not it was the papaya or maybe he is starting to teethe? is papaya not a laxative? i feel like a right rubbish mum this morning, very tired and i cant even tell why my DS was up the whole night for the first time ever..

Hi,

Where I come from papaya is used and recommended for stomach problems and is not supposed to cause indigestion because of the fibre and papain (spelling?). When I had my horrible tummy bug, that's all my mom let me eat for a few days.

I find it hard to imagine that it was papaya what upset your DS' tummy, but then again anything can happen.
What else did you give him to eat during the day?

I hope you've had a better night last night!

hi mena, i am pretty sure that it was the papaya. I am south african and we also use it much like you do, but he finally had a bowel movement yesterday afternoon, and it was bright orange and stank of papaya, the rest of the day he had very bland tried and tested foods eg apple pear carrot and baby rice. so maybe his tummy just didnt like it?
