Transitioning from 3 hr to 4hr
« on: February 20, 2007, 18:33:44 pm »
My DD is 5mo and we are working on getting her on a 4/4. I have been reading "The Baby Whisper Solves All Your Problems" and following the suggested changes but there seem to be some inconsitencies in the times. Has anyone else noticed this? Are these just guidelines? Is it more relevant to lengthen naps or feeds?
She is breasfed and I have recently worked on upping my supply and "tanking her up" during the day. I would say that she is an Angel/textbook baby so getting her down for a nap and extending them seems to be working out okay. The night wakings have imporved greatly as well, (she only woke briefly a few times and I nursed her for about 5 min at 4:30)
Here is where we are for schedule (following book p230)
E 7
S 9 (1 1/2 hrs)
E10:30
S 12:30 (1 3/4 hrs)
E 1:45 * how can she eat now if she should still be napping?
S 3 (2 hrs)
E 4:30 * once again should she sleep for 2 hrs or eat now?
S no cat nap
E,A,S by 6:30 or 7 * eating here will here will only be 2 or 2.5 hrs apart
E 11 Dream feed

My DD is able to follow what we set out for but what do we do? The nap times total over 5 hrs which also seems quite long. Is this confusing to anyone else???

hi there

first- yes, those times are guidelines so actual routines can be slightly different
here's the link to typical routines for babies around your Dd's age:
https://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=10385.0

her naps look fab, really long and if her NW have improved as well, that's just great.
do you feed her right after she wakes up? are you sure she can't wait a bit for her feed? EASAE pattern is very common when transitioning to 4hrs routine.
do you BF? if so, some babies are just not able to stay 4 hours without a feed.

Thanks,

I think things are getting a little worse right now before they get better. She wakes about 30-45 min after going down for a nap at which time we do a combination of PU/PD or shh pat (whichever seems to suit her mood) She seems to be okay w 3 1/4 maybe 3.5 hr between feeds. Her night wakings have increased and seem to be about every 2.5 hrs with no really consistent pattern I've returned to feeding her at night just in case but I really don't think it's hunger. I'm exhausted and to top it off I have to go to work today :(
She is breastfed  and takes EBM while I'm at work.
Last night looked like this:
E 6:45
S 7 pm
A 8 - gave pacifier
A 9 - gave pacifier
A,E 10:15 Dream feed
A 12 :40 gave paci
A,E 2:20
A 3:30 shh pat until 4am
A 4:45
A,E 5:30 5min
A 5:50 - 6:30 with brief periods of settling
A,E 6:53
S 8:42

I need some help!

hm, can she be teething? and how were her naps that day? how is she doing now?
from my own experience I can only say that we had similar problems with NW only when dd was teething [around your Dd's age, she's handling it much better now].

let us know how you're doing.
