do you ever go more than 4 hrs?
« on: February 22, 2007, 04:32:02 am »
I was just wondering if you ever go more than 4 hrs between feeds?  My babies are 4 months old and breastfed.  We recently transitioned to a 4 hr EASY and they seem to do fine with it.  Sometimes they don't even seem hungry at the 4 hr mark though!

I was also wondering how it works ... you're never supposed to let a baby sleep through a feed right?  But if you have 2 hrs of awake time, then you could never have more than a 2 hr nap right?  I ask because my babes sleep very well for their morning nap for 2 hrs, but then the afternoon naps are not so good.  I'd like to let them get some more sleep for their morning nap but it would go through a feed.

Any advice?

Hello again!

May I say again I am in complete awe of you!! You have triplets who are doing better on EASY than many singeltons!

Regarding your concern, EASY is a routine, not a strict schedule to follow.  They main thing is to keep accidental parenting at bay and to make sure they are growing and gaining weight.  Ds had a time at around 9 months that the pm nap could be as long as 4 hours!!  But he was happy, eating up a storm and gaining weight. So I decided to let it be, especially since it wasn't interrupting his nighttime sleep.

So even though it's not right on the mrak as the book says, you have the predictable E-A-S pattern going and they seem to be happy.

Again, you are an awesome woman!  :-*

I just wanted to let you know that I'm impressed you're following EASY and breastfeeding triplets!!
Well done!!!

I agree with Beca, as long as they're on a routine, which follows the same pattern every day, and keeping accidental parenting at bay, I wouldn't worry too much.

If they're sleeping well at night and eating properly, then maybe let them nap longer once a day?? Are you waking them up from the am nap to be fed? If so, let them sleep once to see if they wake up all by themselves. Who knows? I personally didn't let my DS sleep more than 3 hrs in a row when he was that young. But I certainly experimented a lot with sleep and activity times. Try doing the same in the mornings to see if a pattern emerges. And then follow it. As Tracy would say, you would be following your LOs cues. And that's what baby whispering is about  ;) (my interpretation of it, anyway!)

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the great advice!  I think I will experiment and see if they'd sleep longer for that am nap.
