Is this an appropriate diet for her age?
« on: February 28, 2007, 08:13:03 am »
We have gotten a bit lazy about food variety in our house, so I just want to check that I am not doing any diservice to my lo.

Bottle - formula - 220 ml once made up.
Breakfast - Weetbix with cows milk and sugar (I know the sugar is bad, but we share from the same bowl so that I have time for breakfast too, plus sharing is the easiest way to get her to eat). I think she eats about 1 weetbix.
Morning Tea - fruit - usually half a peice of fruit, today was peach.
Lunch - Multigrain bread (1 slice), with philadelphia cheese and sliced chicken breast (deli type meat). A yoghurt.  And a smallish tin of purred fruit.
Afternoon Tea - fruit - the other half from the morning tea.
Bottle - formula - 220 ml once made up.
Dinner - whatever we are having - usually some protein and vegies or salad - some as finger food, some as puree.  If she doesn't like what we are having then it is pureed leftovers that I froze. The vegies is a variety of at least 6 different kinds per night.
Bottle - formula - 220ml once made up.

The only new things I am starting to introduce are spices and stuff -some she likes (like sambal olek :o) some she doesn't (taco seasoning ???).
The only bought food she eats (other than obvious stuff like yoghurt) is the tinned pureed fruit, but it does not have any preservatives, colours, or added sugar.

I guess I want to be sure that this diet is nutritional enough.
On weekends things may vary a little, depending what we eat.

Formula, fruit, dairy, protein, veggies and whole-grains. Sounds like you've got everything covered to me. The only other thing I could think of would be some oily fish (for the omega 3) but it depends if she likes it or not. Grace isn't very fond of fish so I give her a fish oil supplement now.

I wish I ate that well!! LOL

love
Marie

Oh she does have some salmon fillet, probably close to once a week, as we eat it that often.  She doesn't like tinned fish, so that is the only time I can get her to eat it.

Thanks for the reassurance.  Summarised like that, it sounds better to me!

Just a quick question:
If you give Zara bread with something on,do you cut it up in pieces and let her eat it herself or do you feed her?
When I give Dillan bread he just squashes it between his fingers and stick it on everything.

With the sandwhich:

I spread the cheese and put the chicken on half the bread only.  then I fold it in half, and cut into about 8-10 strips.

We have issues with finger food if we give it to her all at once, so we give her just one or two pieces at a time, and wait til she indicates she would like some more before we give her anymore.
