Transitioning to 4hr routine
« on: March 01, 2007, 14:27:25 pm »
Hey there...I am so utterly confused. ???  I have read BWSAYP, but the routines to transition on pg 230 seem all out of wack.  I then read the FAQ post on time to transition & am still confused.  Just to make sure I understand---I increase the a.m. activity time in 15 min increments until the goal of 9am is acheived & then I work on increasing the other A times in the day. That just doesn't make sense to me b/c in essence you are reverting back to the 3hr schedule to continue on with the day.  Also, what about the naps?  Do you do the nap times suggested in the book?  Please help!!!

hi

I understand you being confused VERY well as actually I was feeling the same way when I started thinking about transitioning my dd to 4hrs easy...

what I did was to forget about routines and hours for a few days, watch my baby's cues VERY carefully noting down everything and... move to 4hrs easy almost cold turkey as after 3 or 4 days of observation I could see very clearly she was ready for longer A times and didn't need to  nurse that often too. while still only BFing exclusively we never really reached 4 hrs between feeds thou, it was always closer to 3:45 but she started napping much better with longer activity times.

so my advice is observe your baby, see if your LO is ready for longer activity and longer intervals between the feeds and if you can answer yes to both, go for the change. 'globally' ;)
