Is formula sensitivity hereditary?
« on: March 03, 2007, 04:38:43 am »
Hey all,
I am switching over to formula, and I can't tell if my lo is sensitive to the enfamil lipil I have been feedingher.  My mom has told me before that I was unable to eat regular or even soy as an infant.  Can she be sensitive like I was, or is it not related that way?  Also, how do I know if she is not tolerating the regular formula?  She seems fussy, but I have read some places that that is not a good enought reason to try soy... any input would be great!  Thanks!

It could be that she just has a sensitive tummy.

Have you tried to a formula that is softer on her tummy and easier to digest.

Have you tried any gas drops?  It could be wind that is bothering her.

I tried gas drops as a very young newborn, but not since.  It seemed like the enfamil was very foamy when I mixed it, so I am using Similac right now...She has always seemed to have a sensitive tummy, what is a formula that seems easier on the tummy?  I think I have heard good about GoodStart.

I think its to early to switch to soy, as soy is also a high allergy food and should only be used as a last resort, have you tried a lactos free formula? that may help as well. Gas drops are also a good idea, you can add it to the bottle, or give it afterwards.

I have had two kiddos with sensitive tummies and have used good start for both of them.  They seem to digest it well and have no problem with gassiness (well no more than normal infants).  I have also found that on particular fussy or gassy days if I put 2-3ml of mylanta in the bottle it helps a lot.  It has an antacid and the same ingredient as the expensive infant gas drops.  The doc said it was fine to do and would probably help.  No more than 4 doses a day!

I too have heard that Goodstart is very easy on their tummies.

I would probably try this along with the gas drops and see how things go.
