Is my baby ready for 4 hour EASY?
« on: March 05, 2007, 18:16:28 pm »
My son is 3 months and 1 week old. He was born 14 days past his due date, and he has seemed "ahead of the game" as far as development goes since the beginning.

He is showing the following signs that he might be ready for a four hour routine:
1. Not taking as much at a feed (baby not as hungry at 3 hours - he also only eats for 5-10 min each time)
2. Erratic Night Wakings (wakes 3 times at night, I feed him at the middle of the night wake up)
3. Wakes up a few times during each nap as well. Not hungry, but can't manage to sleep longer.

The one thing that concerns me is that he does tend to get overstimulated easily and can not stay awake for longer then about an hour during the day. He ends up very awake in the evenings and has trouble falling asleep for the night. He sometimes stays awake (happily) for 2-3 hours in the evening. Sometimes it takes him 1-2 hours to settle down for the night.

We have been following EASY since he was about 8-10 weeks old. He is a textbook/touchy baby and has never been able to fall asleep on his own. He always needs to be held and rocked for at least 5 minutes (while swaddled and using a pacifier) in order to get to sleep. He has always slept well at night, in that he can sleep for 3-4 hours straight without waking up. Naps are unpredictable, sometimes he sleeps very well for 2 hours but more often he wakes up a few times.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

Simone

Hi Simone and welcome to the boards!!

You could try maybe 3.5 or 3.75 hour EASY and see how he does.  He does sound like he needs a longer routine than 3 hours.

Could he maybe have switched night for day?  You can try to keep things dark and VERY low key at night so he gets the message that the night is for being quiet and relaxing ie. sleeping  ;)
