Feeding time at MIL's
« on: March 08, 2007, 10:36:34 am »
Hi Girls,

My MIL has DS every Thursday from 1.30-5.30. The prob is feeding time. Now he's having solids and needs to sit in a high chair things are much harder. When she only had to give him a bottle it was much easier.

Anyway, they have a high chair, which I think he hates. He just won't sit still long enough for her to feed him. Its a bit of a struggle for her. I think the issues are the high chair and the environment but I can't change either of those! Also FIL tends to be a huge distraction as naturally he wants to play and be loud (constantly) with his DGS.

I hate dropping him round there as I know MIL will struggle to feed him and get him to sleep. (Sleep issue also posted!)

IDEAS?

Loube

Hmmm, just read your sleep post as well, seems like your Thursday afternoons are a whole lot of stress!
Does your MIL try and feed him when he isn't hungry enough/too hungry?
Does your son eat finger foods, could MIL have finger foods ready the minute he's in his highchair for him to start munching on whilst she heats up the rest?
Is Riley uncomfortable in the highchair? Could you strap him in his pram and put a big towel over his knees and the pram (to try and prevent too much mess) and feed him there?
Could MIL & FIL eat at the same time as Riley? Even if they only had a small snack it might make Riley happier knowing he's not eating on his own.
Does he need a bit of wind down time before mealtime to get him calm enough to enjoy his food, maybe his Grandad gets a little too excited!

I've not any experience of this type of problem (my problem is that Dom goes to my sisters where he happily eats far too many sweets and crisps...I tell myself it's only once a week...) but hope the ideas might help

What a great name!
My ds is Riley as well ;D

I haven't read all your posts on the other boards, but is it just one day a week, and does it impact the rest of the week? Because at that age, a lot of los can totally get that things are one way at Grandma's house and another way at home. So if it doesn't affect home, it may not be a huge problem in the grand scheme of things. Could she maybe feed him on her lap, or just give him finger foods to explore?
