routine question..
« on: March 11, 2007, 02:12:07 am »
Our babies have started sleeping through the night!  YIPPPEEE!  It's been 4 days now I think.

My question is:  When they start sleeping through the night, do babies sometimes have to eat more during the day?  Mine seem to have gone from a 3 1/2 to 4 hour EASY back to a 3 to 3 1/2 hour routine.  What's the deal?  Are they just stocking up on calories?
Thansk!

Hi there, congrats on sleeping throught the night!! ;D

Yes they need more calories during the day if not taking any at night.   However it's usually done by adding more oz to each bottle rather than feeding more frequently, see what I mean.

More frequent feedings can contribute to short naps ... don't know if this is an issue for you?

Do you do a DF?  Or cluster feed in the evening?

That is fantastic news, I am so pleased they are sleeping through the night.

I agree with the PP - that they should increase the amount they take each feed rather than going down to a 3.5 hour routine.

How old are they now?  Do you think they could be going through a growth spurt?

Again, I am so pleased that they are sleeping through the night for you  ;D :-*

They're 4 1/2 months and I BF so I can't exactly add to a bottle!  And they're not really nursing longer either... hmmm...

I do do cluster feedings in the evening.

And YES short naps have for sure been a recent issue with on DD.
Thanks!

The could definitely be going through a growth spurt.

If your DD is starting to suffer from short naps, I would be inclined to see if you can hold her out until the 4 hour mark and see if she will actually take more per feed.
