Sippy cup questions
« on: March 15, 2007, 13:11:54 pm »
Hi All,

I was told that this would be the best forum to post my questions on introducing the sippy/trainer cup.
My DD is 6.5 mo old and loves to play with her sippy cup or chew on the spout, but doesn't seem at all interested in actually drinking from it.
I've tried water, juice and milk.  I've tried during and after solid meals and she's really not interested.  Occasionally she's interested in water in between meals.  I've tried to follow Traci's advice to do it consistently, putting her on my knee and doing it and starting as I intend to go.  Is it normal for a child to not be interested.  In every other way her motor and verbal skills are advanced (I don't mean to sound haughty, it's just what the doctor said and I want to give complete information here) and so I assumed that this would also come easily.  How long should I expect it to take?  Are there better times to offer it?  I'm careful not to overfill it, but she has no problem holding it, she just pushes it away at mealtimes and plays/chews it other times.

Thanks for your help!

~Kristen

perfictly normal. :) We started giving DD a sippy at about the same age. Stick with water for now and just leave it with her more for her to get used to for the time being. There is no rush for her to use the cup, she'll do it when she is ready.

I agree with the pp.  At this age, you just want her to get used to it.  So let her play with it, and offer it to her when you normally do, and she will grasp it in the end.
