Dreamfeed in cot laying down - Dangerous?
« on: March 17, 2007, 21:20:41 pm »
Hi,

We have been giving our baby of 4 months his dreamfeed in his cot while he is laying on his back. This has worked great so far but one of our friends scared my husband by saying that it may be dangerous to feed the baby laying down. How do you do the dreamfeed?

That is how I did the dream feed for about 5 months and we never had a problem, I found that if I picked DS up to give him the DF he would wake up and that is the whole point of the DF, that they don't wake up!

DF info

hi here's the info you could find helpful.

AND I'm moving your post to bottle feeding. I think they will have some more info on feeding a baby who's lying on his back [which I personally wouldn't do] there.

Had a quick look and this is the only thread I could see https://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=72130.0 have a look they may be able to help with any questions, I must add which I just remembered that DS is matress was raised slightly due to possible reflux, this may have helped us with doing the DF laying down.

We did the df with dd#1 with her laying in her crib. Never had any problems. A friend told me the other day that her Ped said that if your child is prone to ear infections they should be fed sitting slightly up rather then laying too far back. Something about drainage to the ears.

I would not recommend feeding your lo while lying completely flat.  This could cause a chocking hazard.

I have also heard of info linked to ear infections / glue ears.

I would recommend picking your lo up for the DF, he may stir, but as soon as you put the bottle in his mouth, he will probably go straight back to sleep.

I was told the same thing about feeding them lying down and problems with ear infections. I did the DF with my dd until she was 8mos old. And she would stir when I first picked her up but went back to sleep when I layed her back down. It worked extremly well for us.
I would just be concerned with him developing an ear infection :-\  HTH.....Tracey

I used my boppy pillow to prop him up when I did the DF. It worked really well and he never woke.

I've propped a little stuffed animal under DS's head when DF'ing in the crib.  Jill
