introduce DF at 5 months?
« on: April 02, 2007, 15:58:05 pm »
hello! i have a quick EASY question, concerning the df, which we never had. my dd is already on 4 feedings a day, and usually sleeps through the night (if she wakes, it is not from hunger). i am now reading BW for the first time and getting the impression that df is quite necessary in her age. the only problem i see in her routine is that she doesn't sleep 12hr at night, but only 10-11, so her daytime routine should be adjusted accordingly (2 catnaps sometimes). do i need to start waking her for the df? or we can already skip this stage?
thanks.

hi Lorelei,

i personally would not start the dreamfeed now, especially since your lo is sleeping through. i've read from pp that introducing it can create problems - so if it ain't broke, don't fix it! we do the DF but we have been on EASY since 6 wks. I'm ready to ditch it but it prevents NW for us. we still are not sleeping through the night so i am envious!  ;D

I agree with the PP, I would not introuduce the DF if your lo is sleeping through the night.  Some people do not do the DF at all - We never really did it (only when DS was teething and was not taking in as much milk) and he slept through the night.

With regards to the sleep.  It sounds like your lo is doing really well - some lo's just do not need as much sleep as others and sounds like your DD is doing perfectly well on 10-11 hours per night.

thank for responding, guys! my problem is that i often don't know how to make her through the day with four feedings only and 13-14 hours of wake time. any routine suggestions for a 9am-10pm-er? or should i set the last feeding exactly 12 hours from the first (with the subsequent night sleep)? but then it will be different waking and bedtime hours every day...    :-\

do you mind posting your schedule? my understanding is that her bedtime is at 10pm and she wakes at 9am and she is on a 4 hr EASY?
