15MO have just moved to 1 sleep
« on: April 10, 2007, 04:13:12 am »
Hi,

My DD has just turned 15 months. She has always been a great sleeper (both day and night), up until recently I was giving her a 30/45 minute nap in the morning and 3.5 hours later she was going down for 1.5 hours. Only in the last week or so she was not going down for her morning catnap or if she was it would take over half an hour for her to get to sleep - so I thought this is the time to take her to 1 sleep. What I am finding though is she won't sleep past the 1.5 hours - I thought that as she had skipped her morning sleep she would crash for at least 2 hours - maybe more? She is walking, very active so I give her lots of activity to wear her out - I wondered if she was just set in that 1.5 hour sleep.  Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks
J

Its often thought that once they go down to 1 nap, they will have this great 3 hr nap. Some do! But, many are on 1.5-2hrs and do about 11hrs at night. What time is the nap? What does her day look like???

With Isabella at the start she was honestly only taking a 1hr nap and we did a super early bedtime until the nap lengthened. Its an av now 2hrs but I've always accepted 1.5 as a normal length as well.

I have also heard that the nap may lengthen with time, but is not as long as you would think at the start.

well wouldn't you know it but today she did 2 hrs 15 min.... She generally gets up around 6.30am, we are in Sydney so daylight savings just ended so the birds are getting up earlier and sun is coming up just after 6am. Today I put her down just before 1pm but i'm guessing this is too late, what time do you recommend putting her down if she wakes around 6.30am? She normally does between 11 and 12 hours at night. Can you also give me an idea of max awake time around this age? Thanks.

Scotty moved to one nap at around 15 months. First we alternated and it was every 2nd day. He is now on one nap and never sleeps longer than 1.5 hours. Before he had two 1.5 hour naps. Doesn't seem overtired though... Instead of his naps getting longer his night got longer (12.5 hours mostly)

If she wakes at 6.30am I would say a nap starting around 12.30 the absolute latest (so between 12-12.30pm). Its about 5.5hrs from the time they wake up. At 15months they only just start getting used to the longer hours so I do think that 1pm is a little late. Then aim for bedtime around 6.30ish (asleep by 7pm). The average sleep is 13hrs so about 2hrs nap and 11hrs at night.

Sounds like she's doing great!!! I absolutely love the 2hr naps (and occasionally do get 2.5hrs). It refreshes you so much and gives you energy to be up with a busy toddler for the next 5 (or so) hrs till bedtime  ;D

My dd was stuck on the 1.5 hour nap for months.  she could only do5.5 hours after nap before she needed to be asleep for the night (otherwise we got nw's) so that's how I set her nap time.

OK, so  I didn't get two hrs 15 min deluxe sleep like the other day I only got an hour and a half...:( so I'll just keep persisting and hopefully as you say she will extend to at least 2 hours every sleep. The other thing I have noticed in last week or so is her waking and crying at night which she never normally does, is this common?

unless you can find another culprit, like teeth, that could be overtiredness.  Try bringing bedtime earlier for a few days..... or on some days to help catch up a bit.
