BRAND of bottle?
« on: April 16, 2007, 16:44:39 pm »
Just got back from the Pd and have a reflux diagnosis and medication! 'whew' Hopefully things will improve for my DS. We have been using Avent bottles, but the doctor recommended switching to Dr.Browns bottles. Anyone have an opinion about one bottle being better than another for reflux?

(Not sure if Dr.Browns are available in the UK...)

I changed from avent to nuk once ds had been diagnosed with reflux and things were much better, the avent ones made him too windy

DR Brown are available in the UK, I think another name for them is B Free.

We also used the Nuk Bottles as our DS suffered quite badly with wind.  These seemed to help him a great deal.

Mothercare and John lewis also sell Dr Browns bottles... we found them better but not perfect!  Just a tip if you decide to go for them... if you warm the milk you need to remove the middle bit.  A vacuum is created when warming and the milk shoots out of the top even with the cap on!! Speaking from experience!  The Dr browns bottle is "natural flow" like the Haberman feeder that Tracey used to recommend.  Have you see the clips on the discovery home and health website?... the clip you need is "Harvey and Ollie"

We started with Avent and moved to Dr Brown's, they are definitley better and have really helped with the wind and reflux. I will second the leaking if the liquid is too hot and they are easily available in the UK.

I have tried several brands of bottles! I find Dr. Brown bottles the BEST! However, i like the standard version much better than the wide neck. They take a little longer to clean (about 1 minute longer for 8 bottles) and it's worth it! :)

Good luck!

Thanks ladies!!!! We started on the 4oz Avent bottles, so am glad to know this information before we buy the larger bottles. They look a little intimidating, especially to clean, but sounds very worth it. :)

I for sure see an improvement. He takes longer to feed, but in this case that is a good sign. I almost bought the wide-neck ones because I was worried about his transition from Avent to Dr.Brown, and the wied-neck seem similar to Avent, but I remembered gisele's tip and bought the standard one. I maybe should have bought one of each to test before buying all 8 in one go!!! :)

Now if he would stop upchucking half the bottle after his feeds are over that would help! But that is a query for another thread...  ;)

Hi,

I've never tried the Dr Brown's bottles but I switched to Mam's (available from boots) when my DS was diagnosed with reflux as they have a filter bit on the bottom to let air out as the baby sucks. They're really easy to use, clean etc. Just thought I might throw in an alternative.

Stace x
