New Found Freedom with Big Girls's Bed
« on: April 19, 2007, 07:03:39 am »

Hi there,

My 16 mth daughter has been on a good routine and independent sleeper since birth. :D

After transferring her to the big girl's bed at 14 mths, everything was fine for the first month. Lately she discovered she could get off the bed, open the door and look for mummy. Some nights this could take up to an hour or more. Most times, I will just sit by her bed till she sleeps because it is too exhausting . I have tried placing her back in her crib but starts crying the minute I put her down. She is now sleeping in a GroBag and still can waddle like a duck.

Any advice how what I should do as I need her to go down independently.

Rgds, Janet

I don't know the answer, will be watching with curiosity as am soon to undertake this with my DD.  In BSWAYP she does say to even resort to a baby gate if that is what is required to keep the lo in the room.

LOL at the image of waddling like a duck! ;D

Hay Janet,

We put a stair gate on our DS's room as I didn't want him running into everyones room in the middle of the night. The first week, he was curious, in and out of bed a lot but now he next to never even opens his door which we just pull over (we don't actually close it properly IYKWIM) as he knows he can't get out.

It's been great for us, HTH.

just went through the same thing ::).India kept getting out of her bed in her gro-bag and shouting for us.she even managed to get half way down the stairs and fall the rest.we put a stair gate on the bedroom door and i use a sheet to tuck her in over her grow-bag.i also had to put her straight back to bed for what seemed like 900 times for 3 nights but now she gets herself to sleep and never gets out of bed :).hth.........jenny

Hay,

Just to follow up a little on what Jenny has posted - bless India (beautiful name BTW) falling down half the stairs  :(. With my DS we ended up just letting him settle himself back in bed, then tucked him in when he was asleep, rather than putting him back in as he thought it was a game! I used to get really wound up and he'd be laughing at me  ::)!

Just thought I'd say that, that worked for us.

Thanks for all the response and great tips. I am preparing myself for the marathon of 900 times in 3 nights? I hope the novelty does wear off soon.

Last night, I shut the door and Vera was taking out all the books and CDs in her room and crying. I really need to child proof her room. I will start this on Saturday. She is definitely not getting enough sleep as she is now experiencing EW due to the later than usual bedtime. Now she is asleep only at 0830 pm. In the past, it was 0730 pm.

I will come back and keep you guys posted. Thanks.
