Best ideas for toddler/preschooler together?
« on: April 24, 2007, 11:16:30 am »
Hi.  DS just turned one.  DD is just over 3. We are getting into a phase where they aren't really playing together...but he's always in her stuff.  Looking for ideas on how I can engage them in different parts of the same activity together.  Thanks!

Sticking (buy a sheet of stickers and give them a piece of paper to transfer them onto)  pouring (a shallow bowl of water and cups) sand pit, playdoh, dancing to music, cushions on the floor.
Just a few ideas of the things that we do in my childminding setting.

We've got a sand/water table which my 2 yo loves and I can see my 6 mo getting very interested in soon.  Of course, I guess it will just have to be a water table if dd2 decides she would like to sample the sand. :)

Erin, what's a sand/water table?  It's outside, right?

They had one at Nathan's preschool and they had an absorbant mat under it.  They used to put lots of dolls in there and the kids bathed them.  That was a table with only one dip, not two, so you either put sand or water, they did sand sometimes and water other times and the kids loved it, always lots of them around it.

Wow, thanks Mari!  I had heard of sand boxes, but not a table...  I bet kids do love this!
