What can I expect at 5 weeks?
« on: April 25, 2007, 22:02:12 pm »
Gracie is 5 weeks old today and I feel like I am doing something wrong with the EASY. I have been trying to do it from day one, as much as it can be done for such a young baby. The thing is, I am hearing of other babies her age who are not even doing BW, whose babies are sleeping 4-5+ hour stretches at night now, and Gracie is only sleeping about 2 hour stretches at night (3 hours between feedings). Is this still to be expected at this age or does this mean I am doing something wrong with the EASY?

can you post your routine?

there's nothing wrong in feeding at night at her age but well, yes, she might be sleeping longer stretches at night at 5 weeks.

so please post your routine and we'll see how we could help :)

Here it is (varies a bit from day to day, but this is generally how it goes):

6:45/7 Wake for day, Eat
7:50ish Wind down for nap
8:15ish Sleep
10 Eat
11ish Sleep (usually on the go due to having a toddler also)
1 pm Eat
1:50ish Wind down for nap
2/2:15 Sleep
4 Eat
5:15ish Catnap sometimes (she tends to be very alert around this time)
6 Eat (cluster feed)
6:45ish Sometimes Sleep
7:15 Bath (on some nights)
7:30/8 Eat (2nd cluster feed)
8:30ish Asleep for the night
11 Dreamfeed
2am-ish Eat
4:30-ish Eat

Anything I should change???

I wanted to add a couple more details. Her morning nap usually doesn't go too well--she often wakes after about 40 min, and I haven't felt like I can spend another 20 minutes settling her due to having a toddler on the loose, so I have been putting her in her swing and she falls back asleep. Also sometimes her afternoon nap ends up not being in her crib either b/c her brother has been struggling with his sleep and has been skipping his nap, which means I have a cranky toddler to tend with and so Gracie will end up taking her nap on the go again, in a sling or in the swing. So I don't know if all this accidental parenting is the problem but I am trying to do the best I can under the circumstances with managing a toddler also.

hi Joy

sorry for making you have to bump your post, lol  :-[ :P

I don't think you have to change anything now. her napping, or rather ending her naps in the swing, is not that bad considered she's falling asleep in her crib and yo only 'transfer' her to the swing after she wakes up in the middle of her nap.
a nap on the go is very much ok as long as it's not every nap KWIM?

so really at her age I think you're doing great!
