Hi - we are shortly off on an overseas trip for a few weeks to visit family.  OUr LO is 15mths old and goes off to sleep great and sleeps well at home. However we have had problems for the last 6mths getting her to sleep at other places, so have kind of avoided that situation.  Just wondering if anyone been in a similar situation and if there are any tops for helping her settle independently when we are away rather than have to resort to props or assisting too much that it impacts on when we get home.  Thank you...

Sorry took so long to answer your post. I haven't personally had any experience with this so I might not be of much help  :-\.
I would say try to keep the same nap and bedtime routine for consistency. Also if it has to be that your lo is out of place during the holidays, let it be and you can only do your best to ensure she gets the right amount of sleep. I bet from all the excitement that might not be the case.... don't worry about some AP to help you out.... once you come back you can start fresh.

Its only natural to go a little off track when on holidays...

Have a great time!!! ;D

We went on a trip when my son was 9 months old.  One thing we did is to practice sleeping in the pack-n-play, which is where he would be sleeping on vacation, so that he would get used to it.  We also did our best to stick to his routine like the pp said and that helped out.  Our lo sleeps with white noise so we just made sure that we had something with us on vacation.  There were a couple of days where we did not have an white noise and he had a lot of trouble sleeping.  Those days we resorted to props- usually rocking him to sleep.  It took us about two weeks to get back on track when we got home.  One week to get back on track time-wise and then the second week we worked on getting him to go to sleep independently.  It seemed very stressful at the time but looking back it wasn't too bad.  My advice is to bring with you the things that currently help your lo to sleep- any toys, blankets, etc.  And don't stress if you do have to resort to props or AP- do what you need to to make sure that you have a great trip- and then fix things when you get home if you need to.   :)

I would say stick to routine as well as possible, get her used to travel bed and take her loveys with her.
