Man times my LO will sort of wine and cry a little..somtimes she'll do it, stop for a few minutes, do it again ect. I usually don't go in the room at this point because once I go in there so won't let me leave. Sometimes it's a sign that she will actually be nodding off soon. Sometimes she might even cry a little harder for like 3 minutes and guess what she's sleeping. sometimes it's her way of falling asleep. Although she doesn't do this every!! time.

Are you trying to get some milk in near bed time still?

When my LO is overtired - she has a REALLY hard time falling asleep

When did she wake last night? That's good that she is not taking the bottle. If you think she's having enough milk intake and food intake during the day, she should be able to do ok without her milk in the middle of the night. Might just take some time for her to realize - ya know what? I'm not getting milk in the middle of the night.

Just curious: How is the actual bed time at 7:30pm? Does she fall asleep quickly? On her own?

Last night she took 7 oz. of milk right before bed at 7:30.  She never falls asleep with me, in the room.  It usually takes her at least 20-30 minutes to fall asleep.

She actually woke up twice last night.  Once at 12:00, but our dog was barking.  She rolled back over and went back to sleep.  At 3:00 was when she was up for about 45 minutes.  I did not go in either time though.  I really wish that I had not rushed in on Emily with every sound she made for so long.  Thanks for all your support!!!!

Well I thought I would give an update and see if you have any suggestions for me.  Last night we put Emily in her crib at 7:30 after our nightly routine.  She was not asleep until almost 9:00.  She has never stayed up so late!!!!!  She was not upset, just not going to sleep.  Once she went to sleep she did not wake up until 5:00.  When she woke she was screaming.  It did not stop after the 1 minute mark like the last few nights.  I went in and did pu 5-10 times.  I kept telling her it was night night time and for her to go back to sleep.  When I thought she was calm, I walked out.  She stood back up and started to cry.  I repeated the "night night..." and went out.  She settled down and went to sleep, but only for 30 minutes.  She did not cry the second time, just moaned a bit.  Then she stayed asleep until 8:00.  The late wake has thrown us off a bit with feedings today, but I guess this is to be expected.

Tonight we put her down at 7:45.  She is still not asleep though.

Any thoughts???

teething? I know when my Lo's schedule starts going crazy and when she is taking sooo long to fall asleep and waking early, it can be teething. I also find that I play the overtired game a lot and it can be difficult. If she is overtired, she has a harder time getting to sleep. It's not easy. Sometimes she doesn't act tired and is all wound up and in a happy mood. Today my LO got up extra early "5:45am". And to boot - I think it took her until 8:30pm to fall asleep last night. She than napped today for a good 2 hours maybe a little longer "10:45am to 12:45/1pm".

I than made sure that I she already had her milk and that she was being put into her crib at 7pm.  She went down fairly easy. But any later and I could of been dealing with crying and overtiredness.

Usual wake time for her has been 6:30am/7:00am. My LO has gotten up at 5am before after sleeping through the night and in my circumstance, I just let her get up. I felt it wasn't worth trying to get her back to sleep. I think at the time, she was also getting up in the middle of the night for milk. Of course her nap had to be earlier.

one night earlier this week, she didn't fall asleep until 9pm. I think she slept until 6:30/6:45am that day...thank god.

I dont know how others feel about this, but now that my lo is 14 months old - I try to limit her naps too TWO hours during the day. Your first post said something about 2 to 2 1/2 hours for her nap and your LO is starting her nap later than my LO. although sometimes I worry, because her average sleep time at night has always been on the low side. One time...not too long ago she slept over her nana's house and slept for like a total of 12 hours. I couldn't believe it. She never sleeps that long for me "lol". 10 hours a night is average.

be careful of trying to much though because gas or teething can really change things around.

Thanks as of 8:45 she is still not asleep.  I wonder just what it could be.  I thought she was going through some teething about a week ago and thought we would have a break for a while.  That is one of the reasons to start  the sleep training now.  Just not sure how to handle it.  She is not upset, just taking for ever to get to sleep.  She did sleep for 2 hours today (12:30-2:30).  Do you think I should try for an earlier nap or just wait a few days to see what happens?  We are going out of town on Saturday.

Thanks again for all your support.  Knowing that I have you ladies to report to is assuring.

8:50 and she finally fell asleep.  Just over an hour.  Better than last night.  Let's hope for a good night tonight.

Just wanted to report on last night ant today...
Well as you know Emily fell asleep at 8:50 last night.  She woke up at 4:45.  I did pd for about 10 minutes then she went back to sleep until 8:00 again.  I put her down for a nap at 12:00 instead of 12:30.  She was awake until 12:45 and slept until 2:30.  We had visitors tonight and did not get her down until 8:00, but she fell asleep within 10 minutes.

Tomorrow is our night away from home.  We have only been away 5 nights since she was born.  And we were not in the middle of any sleep training.

Wish us luck!!!!

She went to bed around 8:15 and woke up at 5:45 this morning.  I did not even try to do pd. We just got up for the day, but she is rubbing her eyes.  She will have to nap in the car today.

I think going away and changing things up a little bit, will make it a little tough. but you have to do it. I know when I have asked for help from this forum before - some people kept pointing out consistency with everything. Although I know it can change - my magic numbers for my 14 month old is after being up for 4 1/2 hours in the morning it's NAP time. That is she is already been fed ect. and she is being put into her crib. Than she stays up for between 5 and 6 hours before bed time. I have to be careful about that one though.  Overtiredness settles in.  For example: Today she woke at 6:30am. I will be putting her in her crib no later than 11am - probably 10:45am. IF she falls asleep at 11, she'll hopefully sleep until 1pm.  If she falls asleep closer to 11:30, hopefully she'll nap until 1:30. I really like seeing her nap for 2 hours. Than she stays up until 6:45pm and put into bed for the night. Yesterday, she woke up early from her nap "12:30" and I made sure she was being put into bed at 6:45pm. Sometimes, depending on her nap - I let her stay up until close to 7:30pm. But, I try not to change it around too much "consistency"

It sounds like she isn't having milk in the middle of the night though? It also sounds like 8:15pm until 5:45am isn't that bad? My LO will many times not fall asleep until 8pm and wake up between 5:45am and 6:30am. The earlier they get up, the earlier they have to take a nap. That stinks because if theres only on one nap - than what? Won't they be tired later on and very overtired. I know with my LO it's very stressful for me and her to go down for a 2nd nap "lol". She has been on one nap since 11 1/2 months old. That's why I pray she sleeps until at least 6:30am so I can wait until 10:30/11:00am to put her down for her nap. If she does wake up at 6:00am...sometimes I will try to push for her to stay up until closer to 10:30 or so.

Mommyto1 - I think 8:15-5:45 is not enough and overtired. Can you tell me what time you are attempting naps. Is she on 1 nap or 2?

Time to report again.  Saturday she got up at 5:45.  She did sleep in the car for 1.5 hours on the way to the wedding.  She was asleep by 8:15 and did not wake up until 5:30.  I could not get her back to sleep though.  We only had one room and could not really pd and walk away.  I did not want to give her milk to go back to sleep so we just got up for the day.  Not sure if that was the right thing to do.  Again today she slept 1.5 hours in the car on the way home.  She is in her crib now, but not asleep.  If she wakes up 5:30-5:45 in the morning what should I do???

She is on 1 nap.  She was usually waking up between 7 and 7:30.  Her nap time would start 12:00-12:30.    That is a 5 hr. A time.  Is that too long for her age?  She usually does not show any signs until at least 11:30 though.  I also did not want the afternoons to be so rough.  It seems that when she has a later nap she is happier in the afternoon.  Although that could be causing the late bedtime??? I might try 4.5 hrs. A tomorrow and see how it goes.  I hate to be back to trial and error.  I was feeling like we were just getting into a daily routine, but I understand that the nights need to be worked on now and that could throw everything else off.

Sorry for the long post tonight.  I feel like I need to tell you ladies how things are going so that we can get just as much help as we can.

Thanks for all your support!!!!
