How much milk?
« on: May 23, 2007, 09:43:06 am »
My 9.5 month old is on 3 meals a day but I think I am giving him too much milk.  Its just been something I was doing and suddenly realised, he needs less.

His meals are as follows:-

7am - Formula (SMA Progress) 8 oz
8am - Breakfast (which he wont eat much of) cereal, or yoghurt/toast
11-12pm - dependant on length of nap 6oz milk
1pm - Lunch
4 - 5pm - another 6oz milk
6pm  Dinner

Bottle before bed 6oz

Definitely looks like too much milk to me.  How much are/or did others give their babies at this age?  Should I perhaps drop the mid morning and nid afternoon milk and give a snack?

I would def drop a bottle, my ds was on 3 at 8 months then 2 at 9 months (1 in morn and 1 at bed).  Your plan sounds good, to offer the snacks.

Jazmyn,

As this is primarily a milk question, I'm going to pop you over to the Bottlefeeding Forum :)

I agree with Emma,

You might want to consider dropping one of the bottles, the first one to go is usually the 11am bottle and lunch is brought forward to about 11:30 / 12:00 ish.

You could then offer another bottle aroud 2:00/2:30 and then a bottle before bed.

By 10 months my DS was on 2 bottles a day and the afternoon bottle was replaced with a yogurt.

You may want to add a yogurt after lunch or dinner to keep the extra calories in his diet.
