Not eating very much in the morning... is it a sign?
« on: May 25, 2007, 17:14:55 pm »
Hi ladies - just looking for some feedback on the dreafeed.  DS is on the 4 hour easy, starting 8:00ish in the morning.  Bedtime routine starts at 7:30 with 1 tbsp. cereal (mixed with 1oz. formula), bath, bottle (7oz) and then bed around 8:15/8:30.  We then wake him up for his dreamfeed at 10:00/10:15 where he has 5 or 6 oz.

When he wakes up in the morning he attacks his bottle for about the first 5 oz. and then it's a struggle to get him to finish.  He just doesn't seem interested or hungry anymore.  The problem is if he doesn't finish the bottle he's hungry before the next feed (which is around noon).

My question is... could this be a sign that he's not needing the dreamfeed anymore?   I know I won't really know until I just try not giving him the feed, but I wanted to get some opinions before I did that - I really don't want him up at 6:30 either as that will really mess up our day!

Any thoughts?

I have the same problem so I have been diluting the formula when my DD wakes at night am now down to 2 scoops per 4 oz of water. It seems to make her more interested in her bottle in the morning.  I am hoping to dilute down completely to water in the end, then nothing.

I agree with Emma.

Have you tried cutting the DF down to about 3 or 4 oz and see how you go from there.  If he takes to that well and does not wake early etc, you can then start cutting it down a bit more.

Good luck, keep us posted on how you get on.

I think it was Samuels mum who suggested this to me, as I wanted to cut the night feed to help her eat well in the morn, and it works, little by little she is taking more and more! I was just going to reduce the ozs but thought it was best to dilute and then reduce!  ;D

It was me  ;) :P

Glad things are going so well Emma.

With regards to weaning the DF, it is suggested cutting down on the oz so that your lo will take more in the day.

Tom Toms mum, thank you, it was great advice, and so nice I am able to pass it on, just wanted to make sure that the person who came up with the idea got the credit, don't know why I thought it was Samuels mum, is she a moderator? :-*

Let us know how it goes Oilerbaby!

All right - 4 oz. at 10:00 and he slept until 8am - ate his bottle a bit better and finished it (although he's starting to get so darn snoopy while he's eating!).

I also didn't change his diaper at that feed hoping he wouldn't leak - we've been having problems with them leaking but moved up a size and that seems to have solved the problem.

Not wondering if I should try 3 oz tonight and start to wean off the dreamfeed now... thanks ladies!

Emma, yes Samuels mum is a mod, she is on the Breast feeding board  ;)

Shauna, that is great news about your lo sleeping so well and taking his bottle this morning.  I would stick to the 4 oz for a few days, and then cut down to 3, and see how you get on.

Good luck.  Keep us posted on how you get on.
