Playtex Drop-Ins Question... You're gonna laugh
« on: June 07, 2007, 03:20:25 am »
Hi everyone! Don't laugh at me too much...

I have scoured the internet over this question, and can't find the answer, so I'm hoping all you experienced Moms can help!

We have been using the Playtex Drop-Ins disposable system with our (almost) 9 week old. We have had the greatest success with less gas and less "overflow" so we've been very happy... :)

So here's my question... lately, she has been inverting the nipple when she drinks. Eventually, she can't even suck out of the nipple because it is literally sucked inside itself. When I pull it from her mouth, it draws air back into itself and creates a lot of bubbles. I guess she is creating a vacuum.

So what am I doing wrong? Depleting too much air from it before beginning her bottle? I usually push the air out until the formula reaches the top of the nipple.

Thanks for your help and for not laughing <too> hard at me! :)

Hmm not sure what is going on there.  I used those with both boys and never had that problem.  I guess when she pulls off you could just pull it up a bit and if if gets some air in at least she can still get at the nipple right?

Wow - that was a fast reply! Thanks!

I am using the Playtex brand preformed drop-ins... I wonder if you don't have to push all the air out with these?? Is that what you used? If I don't push all the air out, then she doesn't create a vacuum. But doesn't that defeat the purpose of this type of bottle system? :)

Thanks again for your quick reply!

Yeah i always pushed all the air out, and I used those exact same kind.  And I agree that if you dont push the air out it does defeat the purpose for sure.  Oh and I didnt laugh when I read it either.

Oh also dont ever try the generic type of drop in bottle thingies cause they are not nearly as good.
