2 year old ~ Overtired or just needs less sleep??
« on: June 10, 2007, 17:39:33 pm »
My 2 year old has been going to bed @ 6:30pm/7pm and getting up in the morning around 6:30am/7am.  Lately she hasn't been falling asleep right away, she will talk, sing, call out until about 7:30pm/8pm.  But she still was getting up at the same time.  So I thought that maybe she needed to go to bed a little later.  So that is what we did for a few days.  Now, she is getting up very EARLY ~ 5:30am.  So, I thought that she was overtired and have tried to put her to bed earlier to make up for it, but she still isn't falling asleep right away, and is still getting up at 5:30am.  HELP!

Between 1 and 1:30pm.  She will sleep 1hr 15min or lately it has been 45min!

Try nap no later than 12.30pm. I think she's overtired rather than undertired, especially if her nap has gone down to 45mins. I still put Isabella to bed at 7pm (even though she takes a good 30-40mins of falling asleep). It wouldn't matter if I put her down at 7.30pm... she would still take as long to windown but in turn will become overtired.

I agree with the PP....move nap time up to 12:30 and see if that makes a difference.  My daughter was never able to nap later than 12:30.

I think you are right about the long windown.......It doesn't matter when I put her down, she talks and sings for about 30-45min every time.  So when I started the later bedtime, she was going to bed EVEN LATER because she was taking that long to windown.  I will try the earlier naptime tomorrow and earlier bedtime and hope it helps.
Thanks!!

My DD started to take ages to go to sleep around the same age. I still would go with overtired though especially if naps are short and waking early. I couldn't change the bedtime to dramatically with my DD otherwise she would just stay awake until her normal bedtime. Try bringing it forward in small incredments and you'll soon be back to where you need to be. Also try blackouts for early wakings to be on the safe side.
