« on: June 24, 2007, 05:44:58 am »
aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh Help i ahve three kids and my routine is out of wack...this is my first child the other two are step and foster so have not done any of it before. school pick up and daycare pick ups have put me so out im not sure if im coming or going.

How old is your child
5 months next week

What’s his/her daily routine?
4.30am wake up no intrest in feeding
6.30am feeding 10 mins BF
Solids 1 teaspoon
7am nap perhaps 2 hours may be a little more
then feeding every 3 hours ish and sleeping 11.30ish , 2pm big sleep 2hrs
fussy feeds - scratching head and ears pulling off and on
was all good till  teeth came about a month ago
if up at 4.30am night sleep is about 6pm as so cranky with last feed about 5.30pm
then wake between 11.30 and 12 for a feed
wake between 2 and 3.30 i feed only to stop crying (she has always done this feed from birth and usually missed 11pm feed)
then up at 4.30 again crying

Do you bottle or breastfed??
BF and soilds twice a day and trying formula as feeding so much boobies are empty or feel like they have little to nothing

How much?
if formula about 60-80 mls

how long?
10 mins

If breastfed.. one side or both?? (at each feed)
both each feed

How many wakes per night?

11.30 feed 2.30 feed and 4.30 playtime!!!

What’s your LO like when waking at night? How long is he/she up?

11.30 feed and goes back to sleep quick
2.30 feed and may coo a little 5 mins then back to sleep
4.30 no intrest in food but is wide awake

When you go to him/her is she fussing or crying? Or is it a mantra cry?
crying try the dummy but doesnt always work

What have you tried to settle??
she sleeps ina a hammock in our room so try and put in dummy and rock for a bout 5 mins

What do you do for A time and how long is it?
jolly jumper about 2 hours a day in total 30-40 mins a session and floor gym and she is a big roller onto her tummy

Are there developmental issues such as teething or milestones? born 8.9lbs 57 cm big for a girl, has had two teeth for a month

Have you introduced cereal?
yes

Why,
though i would try it and she cant get enough of it trying to put spoon i herself loves it

how much, max 2 teaspoons mixed with breast milk

and how many times a day? (for LO’s under 6 months) 6.30am and 6pm ish
Do they have a prop? If so what is it? Dunny

Do they have a lovie? ????? dont know what that is so No i guess not

Hi Tora and welcome to the BW boards.

I can tell you are pretty frustrated right now so lets take one thing at a time.  My first thought is that your little one is overtired and not on a predictable routine.  Have you read "Secrets of the Babywhisperer" or Tracy's other book?  I have a lot of questions and if you can answer them I will be able to better see what's going on.

Does you little one go to sleep independantly or do you rock or nurse her to sleep?
How long has she been having solids?  Did the waking get worse after you started them?
Has a doctor looked at her ears to check for an ear infection?

I think the first thing you may want to work on is getting her on a better routine.  Babies do better when they have a little bit of predictability.  Are you familiar with EASY?
Post back and I will try to help you get things sorted out.

Have you read "Secrets of the Babywhisperer" or Tracy's other book?   no i have the baby whisperer though and am getting through it

Does you little one go to sleep independantly or do you rock or nurse her to sleep?  sometimes independant if i get her down in the sleep window otherwise rock her in the hammock

How long has she been having solids?  week and half
Did the waking get worse after you started them? yes
Has a doctor looked at her ears to check for an ear infection? she had a cough for 9 weeks post nasel drip (we think)but chest and ears were always clear but ill take her to get it checked again

Are you familiar with EASY? Reading about it now

Last night she went to bed at 6 pm and we wrapped her in a double sheet(my husbands idea) and she woke at 11.30 pm for a feed at 2am crying so i put her dummy back in then at 4 for a feed, spend 15 mins chatting to herself and she went back to sleep till 6am, so my husband got up with her and found she had a big poo (hadnt been for two days) in her nappy, but kept her up as she had been asleep for 12 hours.

But if i try and give her a full feed as long as she can on both breasts at night she does a big spew afterwards, where it seems like everything comes out again.

Thanks you for you help

I would, based on the fact that the wakings have gotten worse after starting solids, stop them.  Babies can really have a hard time with solids.  The AAP is now recommending that parents don't start solids until 6 months.  You might try quittng for a few weeks and see what happens.
The spitting up at night could be because she eats too much but it could also mean that her belly is upset from the solids.
Keep reading the book and post with questions.  Also, have a look around the site, it is jam packed full of information.

My first thought is that we need to really get you on a good EASY routine?  Have you posted in that forum?  You might want to post over there.
Is there a reason why he feeds so often? At his age he should be able to go 4 hours between feeds.  It is possible that you have a snacker who thinks he needs to eat every two hours.

You want a sch that looks something like this:
E-6:00 wake and eat
A-until 8
S-8:15-9:45 or 10:00
E-10:00
A-until 12
S-12:15-2
E-2:00
A-until 4
S-catnap of 30 min
E- 4:30
A-until 5:45
S- start bedtime routine with another feed (cluster) in bed asleep by 6:30
E-DF at no later than 10:30

How does that sound to you?

I think the paci is a prop. If you have to keep going in and putting it in it is a problem. You will probably have to either wean it or keep going in there to replace it.
Post back and I will try to help you through this. Ok.

Confused she is following the routine and still waking at 2.30 and before 6am

Could it be wind, at the 2.30am she tends to pass wind a lot, or pop as we call it :D

She is having about 130mls at her dreamfeed

What does she do when she wakes? Does she cry for you? Is she hungry?  Do you feed her?
If you are able to follow the routine then things must be going better, right?
Does she wake exactly at 2:30. If so, this could be habitual and we could try W2S.
What time are you doing the df?

Oh, you aren't bothering me, I am just trying to help you figure this out.
Often times fixing the routine is just the first step.
She could legitimately need one night feed at her age on top of the df.
I would watch and see if the 2:30 waking is the same every night.  If it is you can try w2s.
If you have questions about it let me know.
