BACK TO SQUARE ONE.. !!
« on: June 30, 2007, 13:40:22 pm »
Hi,

I really really need some help, yet once again...

I'll list the problems down first
1. Naps are still mostly 45 min.
2. Cranky more than he used to be.
3. Cant figure out a schedule for him
4. Night wakings are hell!! Gets up almost every hour.
5. Cant go to sleep on his own ( though he showed some progress a few weeks back but .....!!)

My DS is 4 months old and though we were on a time framed EASY routine till three weeks back, now we are just on EASY.. meaning that there is no fixed time of waking up or eating or sleeping..

He gets up anywhere between 7.30 to 8.30am and then plays for a while, gets cranky and has difficulty falling asleep. (I am still using a combination of Pat / shh and PU/ PD.) From here on, its a 3 to 3.5 hour EASY, actually more of EASASE( his sleep being really erratic.)

The major problem being the night wakings.. he was doing fine in his cot till he was 2 months but then we had to move and so he has been in our bed and due to accidental parenting and sheer lazinesss, i fed him every time he fussed at night. The result: now he wants to suckle every 1 - 1.5 hours and its driving me insane.

I have tried giving him the pacifier after reading a few of the posts here but he doesnt take one!! He doesnt have a lovie either.

I know i am led him to this point and now i dont know how to rectify my mistake. And since we still havent gotten to the new city, he will be sleeping in our bed till August!!!

Someone pleassseeeee helppppppp!!!

I would try to tackle one this at a time.
Personally I would work on his naps first.  Bad daytime sleep usually equals bad night time sleep so naps are a good place to start. They also throw the EASY into a jumble of lettters  ;)  if they aren't long enough.

What have you done to extend naps?
I would post over in the naps forum as there are moms there who may be dealing with the same things.

As for your nightwakings. I think they are probably happening for a couple reasons. One because you have an overtired baby  and, two because he thinks he needs to eat to be able to go back to sleep. At four months it may be that he still needs two night feeds, but he certainly doesn't need to eat every hour.
Is there anyway you can have him sleep in a cot by your bed?  I think that might make it easier for you not to cave and feed everytime he wakes and crys.

If you have a ton of trouble with naps you might want to post over there because there will be more moms who are also working on extending naps.
You can always post here for nightwaking help.  I would be happy to help or direct you to help.
