Wet diaper causing night wakings
« on: July 06, 2007, 03:20:59 am »
My 4mo old DS has wet through his diaper and swaddle three nights in a row...even when he has not just been fed (does that make sense?).  I change him after his DF and middle of the night feed(s)--that's a whole other post :P.  But he just woke up soaking wet and he was changed right before bed!

Does anyone have any suggestions for a night time diaper?  We use Pampers Swaddlers during the day and Pampers Baby Dry at night.  I thought they did better at night but now I am not so sure.  Thanks!!

I actually posted a while back re: leaky diapers after the night (even after we changed at the df).  Anyhow, a bunch of people posted back with a few suggestions...

1.  you can buy diaper inserts at Toys'r'us that you put in the diaper like a maxi-pad - then another lady said she did use maxi-pads... the ones without wings and she'd just poke some holes in them so the pee would flow through to the diaper as well.

2.  A friend of mine would double diaper at night - use regular size and then put a bigger one over top and then put a pair of those waterproof pants that you use for cloth diapers

I did try the huggies supreme but didn't really make a difference.  What I found helped the most was when we moved up from size 1's to size 2's...  He's been sleeping through with no df since 4 months now and he's been waking up dry so I don't know if it's an age thing as well???   The odd time he might have a leaky diaper but maybe once every ten days or so.

Hope this helps!

I always use one size larger for night time.  This strategy took me along time to figure out with my first but with my second I have done this since day one and have had no night time leaks.  I also have heard that some diaper creams will not allow the urine to pass into the diaper, causing it to leak.

Thanks for the suggestions!  I really need them because he had soaked through this morning when I went to wake him up...in addition to the middle of the night.  I went to Babies R Us and bought the diaper doublers.  They were inexpensive and when I opened them I found out why...they look like old fashioned maxi pads, the kind that needed belts.  But if they work then I don't care what they are!

I also thought about buying the next size up but I noticed this morning that his diaper wasn't overly full, it must have just been the way he was laying.  The leaks are always on his lower back on one side so I may not be tightening the diapers enough.  DS has reflux so I am always afraid to make them too tight on his tummy.

Anyway thanks again for the suggestions...we'll see how it goes tonight!

We use Huggies Overnights.  They can't be found everywhere though.  >:(  I can't get them at my grocery but I can get them at Target.  I love them.

Owen was a super soaker at night for a long time.  I tried everything, but what really worked was a Huggie Overnight in the next size up, with a diaper doubler.  He too had reflux so I would fold the top front of the diaper down a little before taping it snuggly.  I can say with this set up, he didn't leak at night again.

Good Luck!!

So Josh leaked through last night with a diaper doubler in!  But I had used a Pampers Baby dry and I think it just fits him funny.  I noticed Huggies Overnights come in a size 3 which is one size up for him so I think I will get a package of those.

Thanks everyone for the feedback! :) :)

I just wanted to tell everyone to watch out...the diaper doublers from Babies R Us gave DS a very bad diaper rash.  He hasn't acted like it hurts but there were huge welts on his bottom after using them 2 nights in a row.  It just doesn't wick away the moisture like the diapers do.  Maybe he just has sensitive skin.  I am glad they were cheap because I am going to throw them away.  I switched to Huggies and have had no leaks yet but the tape makes marks on his legs, unlike the Pampers.  Poor LO!! :'( :'(

That's no good!  I've never seen the huggies overnight diapers... will have to look.  Right now I am using huggies regular during the day and the supreme at night and so far so good.  The odd morning he is a big wet but not much.  I've never had issues with tape marks on huggies though... poor little guy!

Im not sure what brand of DD BRU has but this is where I got mine.  The are all natural cotton, and really inexpensive.  http://www.tinytots.com/shopping/tushies/tushies_mates.html  Im also not sure what tape is making marks.. the leg elastic?  You sure they are not too small?  Poor lil guy, I hope you find something that works!! :-*
