I have a 4 mo (who arrived 2 weeks early and is, therefore, really 3.5 months old, I suppose).  Until recently, she was doing a fantastic job on EASY.  She napped magnificently during the day, and she slept like a champ overnight.  She has recently been refusing her 10 pm feed, so we've decided to eliminate it.  (We couldn't get her to dream feed, so she had one extra catnap before our bedtime routine.)  Now, she sleeps from about 8:45 pm to 6:45 am.  (Previously 10 - 6:45)

She's still taking about 4 naps a day, though (not 2 or 3) ... and she's still on the 3 hour EASY.  I really think we could move to 3.5 or 4 hour EASY at this point since she seems to be much more alert during the day (and taking shorter naps).  BUT I know that she's also still tired, and she really seems to want to nap at the same times still every day.

How do we make the transition?  How do I know when it's right to make the transition?  I just don't know how to easily extend periods of alertness and find the right times of day for her to have nice long naps.  Do I just try a gradual approach - buffering 15 minutes at a time?  I just don't know how to get her into the habit of taking 2 long naps or 2 medium naps and 1 catnap --- when we're both in the habit of her taking multiple medium naps throughout the day.

Should I be adjusting bedtime further back as well?

6:45 A - 7:00 E - 7:30 A - 8:30 S - 9:45 A - 10:00 E - 10:30 A - 11:45 S
12:45 A - 1:00 E - 1:30 A - 2:30 S - 3:45 A - 4:00 E - 5:45 S - 6:30 A
7:00 E - 7:30 A - (8:15 Bath, Massage, Cuddle, Song, Story) - 8:45 S

I would think that if she dropped that 10pm feed, she is getting lots of food.
How is she feeding at 3hrs still?  Is she taking in less each feed?

I guess you could start with pushing the feeds back and bit and see if she can wait longer.  Maybe go for 3.5hrs instead of 3....if you have to feed early, please do.

Once you give her more A time, even if it is only 15mins, she should nap longer.

You could aim for a 3.5hrs EASY, something like this:

7 wake
730 feed
825 in crib for nap 1
830-1030 nap 1
diaper change etc
11am feed
1155 in crib for nap 2
12-2 nap 2
230 feed
325 in crib
330-530 nap 3
530 feed
615 bath
645 feed and top off
7 bed

This gives her 1.5hr A time and 2hrs naps.  I think if you find that you aren't getting the 2hr naps, and you might have to help extend them a bit, maybe she is then ready for more A time.  Increase to 1.75hrs...

hth and good luck
