I have a 4 mo (who arrived 2 weeks early and is, therefore, really 3.5 months old, I suppose). Until recently, she was doing a fantastic job on EASY. She napped magnificently during the day, and she slept like a champ overnight. She has recently been refusing her 10 pm feed, so we've decided to eliminate it. (We couldn't get her to dream feed, so she had one extra catnap before our bedtime routine.) Now, she sleeps from about 8:45 pm to 6:45 am. (Previously 10 - 6:45)
She's still taking about 4 naps a day, though (not 2 or 3) ... and she's still on the 3 hour EASY. I really think we could move to 3.5 or 4 hour EASY at this point since she seems to be much more alert during the day (and taking shorter naps). BUT I know that she's also still tired, and she really seems to want to nap at the same times still every day.
How do we make the transition? How do I know when it's right to make the transition? I just don't know how to easily extend periods of alertness and find the right times of day for her to have nice long naps. Do I just try a gradual approach - buffering 15 minutes at a time? I just don't know how to get her into the habit of taking 2 long naps or 2 medium naps and 1 catnap --- when we're both in the habit of her taking multiple medium naps throughout the day.
Should I be adjusting bedtime further back as well?
