sleeping in a car seat
« on: July 10, 2007, 23:20:51 pm »
Not sure if dd has reflux or not, but she really seems to sleep MUCH better in a car seat :-\  I'm desperate for sleep myself, so I'm going to continue for a little while and have her sleep in her seat at night and in the crib at least a couple of times during the day.

For anyone who had a "car seat sleeper", did you strap them into the seat every time?  She loves to be swaddled, and I"m tempted to just put her in the seat all swaddled up, but I'm afraid that she wil be able to wiggle down to the bottom of the seat a plop out (either I had a dream that this happened to lo#1 or it actually did happen - I can't remember - I was sleep-deprived then too!!!)

So do you strap them in, or do you think it's safe to just lay her in there at least for now while she's so young?

Oh I hope no reflux. :(

Nello slept swaddled in his carseat for almost 7 weeks, naps and bedtime.  :-[ :)  My midwife said it was fine, my Mum thought I was nuts.  At night, I slept on the couch with him beside me on the floor in the car seat and often DH slept on the floor too.  ::) :D  We loved it, we used to call it camping!  ;D  I never ever strapped him in, no sliding down.  We had a great routine too and he slept so well (5 hour stretch for a BF newborn was awesome!) in there that was why I was hesitant to change.  Our routine was:

7pm bath, BF, sleep
10pm BF and change etc... DH and I watched repeat of old Seinfeld and fell asleep during it!  ::)
3am BF and back to sleep at 4am.  DH went to the bed.
7am wake up.

We took the plunge, well not that big, and moved him to bassinet swaddled in our room at around 7 weeks, no problem.  He moved to his own room into his crib/cot at 4 months still swaddled without a hitch as well.  We weaned swaddling with the DF at 7 months. (a bit tough)

I think the car seat really helps with their tummies and works well for LO's like mine that needed to feel "cocooned."  I wish I had of known about those great newborn hammocks like Kelly had for Zander and Nate I think Nello would of loved that.

Hope all this rambling helps!  ::)  More like reminiscing for me.   :-[ ;)

Ps.  Are you going to change your ticker? Maybe in all your free time you could do it! LOL!  ;) All the best
