EASY not so easy
« on: July 29, 2007, 23:26:15 pm »
So for the past 3 days we have been trying to implement EASY but it doesn't seem to be working well.

It seems as if we don't feed until she is 'drunk' and put her immediately to sleep, she just won't sleep.  She'll fuss and wake up and today, she stayed awake until the next feeding!  I've tried the over the shoulder shh/pat with no help, I've tried laying her down on her back in my lap, and a few others but she just doesn't want to sleep.  I've burped her, changed her diaper, given her a pacifier, nothing seems to work.  I don't think it's colic.  She's been staying awake in between feedings almost all day today.

When she cries - she sounds like someone is stabbing her and she almost cries herself to exhaustion.  What am I doing wrong?

As far as feedings go, in general we've been feeding every 2.5 hours or so starting from 8am and have been getting in about 6 feedings each day.  She's been waking up twice in the evenings (once around 2-3 and the other around 5am or so).  Just an FYI, feeding her seems to be the only way to calm her down but I don't understand, most feedings work out fine.  It's just since we started the EASY routine that we are having this much trouble.

I wasn't wispering when my lo was tiny (not sure how old your lo is, but sounds *new*) so can't really give any great advice as my lo slept alot esp while feeding.

Just wanted to offer hugs (though not exactly what you are needing) and I'm sure an experienced person will help you out in a jiffy.

take care
xx

Anna - How old is your LO?

What your LO is probably saying is "Hey! You always let me fall asleep at the boob before! What gives?!? This isn't how I go to sleep!" And she if fighting the change in pattern. It isn't that the EASY is a problem it is that your LO doesn't know how to self soothe and fall asleep on her own. Depending on the LO's age there are different ways to teach them to sleep. Below are some links that can help you. Also, remember that with any change in routine it is important to give it about 2 weeks before you can really determine the results.
