Blocked Duct Experience
« on: July 30, 2007, 19:28:49 pm »
I just wanted to post my experience with repeated blocked ducts, usually in the same spot.  I was getting them every few days and it was draining me greatly.  My son eats lots and I felt like I was in bad shape between the milk production and the constant blocked ducts.  I talked to my doctor and lactation consultants and I posted on this board and nothing worked consistently.  Lecithin might have worked, but the nurse practitioner gave a lower dosage than recommended on websites, so I was worried to take it at higher dosages.  Then I stumbled upon a comment about food intolerances leading to blocked ducts.  Cow's milk was the most common food intolerance and so I tried eliminating milk and dairy from my diet.  Amazingly, I've had no blocked ducts while I avoid dairy!  I had some cheesecake a few weeks ago and "boom!" got a blocked duct.

I really don't understand the connection (the nurse practitioner told me its just coicidence, but I don't buy that), but it worked for me.  I thought I would just share my experience so that others could know about the possible connection.

Hope this helps someone!
Carrie

Wow! I suffer with the same thing. Never heard about dairy being a culprit! Would be very tough for me to give up as I am a dairy addict! I have noticed that taking Lecithin makes a big difference for me. When I forget to take it for a while, I get that lovely lump. How much Lecithin is considered too much?

That's really interesting!  I had mastitis a couple times early on with DS and then he started with the tell-tell signs of MSPI and I cut out all dairy and soy and coincidently haven't had any issues with blocked ducts or mastitis since.  Wonder why that happens?

I have had a reoccurring blocked duct.  The shooting pains are almost unbearable at times.  What is Lecithin?
