Stacy, Riley is that bit older than Kaleb, and it has really only been recently that he can manage to spoon feed himself something. Up until then, he would work on loading the spoon, to have to all fall off again before it reached his mouth. He got quite proficient with yoghurt as compared to other foods in the beginning. Kinda glops to the spoon, so some of it usually finds its way in there!

Something to look forward to I guess.  A the moment, if I do let her try to scoop herself, she is so distracted by concentrating on that that I can get several mouthfuls in without her even realising LOL.

I think I have everything you mention except the cluing in thing.  This morning I made the mistake of seeing if I could put a spoonful of weetbix into Zaras mouth (while she wasn't busy concentrating on something else), and she want absolutely APE on me, yelling and throwing things and trying to get out of the chair by leaning way over to one side, then the other side etc.  When she finally stopped (I was sitting there in open mouth amazement not sure what to do or say) I handed her the spoon, and she silently and calmly took it and put it in her mouth. She usually manages the right way up!

Tonight Weston didn't want his potatoes (chicken, broccoli, potatoes was the dinner option for tonight) Anyhow, when I told him they were 'round french fries' he couldn't get enough of them! LOL  ;)

 ;D

I have a friend who had similar success with telling her girls that the drink she offered them (water) wasn't water, it was H2O!

Natasha, what kind of fruit do you mix with the Weetabix? Is she eating pieces of fruit now?
Pureed fruit i buy in small tubs generally apple, stawberry. We are slowly working on the fruit pieces she has started taking an interest in grapes she puts them in her mouth eats most of it but spits out the skin at least it is a start. I put the puree in her cereal so at least i know she is getting some fruit.

We are the same Catherine use to let me load up the spoon for her now she pushes my hand away if i try and help her. She is getting really good at it she eats all her cereal on her own even her yoghurt out of the tub. Dinner she sometimes gets frustrated with so she just uses her fingers.

Well, today I TOTALLY spoke too soon.  When I picked DD up from daycare, they asked if I want to encourage independant feeding - I asked why - they said she was very intent on scopping the good onto the spoon herself. She did OK at daycare, because it was yoghurt, which sticks to the spoon.

Then dinner. In the end I had to give her the bowl and the spoon and let her practice.  She cannot do it, but luckily after a bit of practice and once she was fully engrossed in practicing, she let me get food from the bowl with another spoon (she was still holding the bowl though) and put it in her mouth.

that's exactly what we have to do with DS.  Today he was bent on eating his whole dinner with a fork.  Yeah, right!  We had to put the food on his tray (mashed potatoes, mixed steamed veggies and little home made meat pie) and guide his fork in his hand to pick it up so he could bring it to his mouth on his own.  He is such a stubborn little guy!  Usually,  though, if I give him a spoon or fork to muck round with, he'll let me feed him with a separate one.

Weston will eat on his own and has decent success with the silverware...but we let him use "real" silverware because the kiddy plastic stuff just can't stab anything or scoop enough out considering 50% of it falls off the spoon/fork...with real silverware, he gets to taste success...some food makes it in there and he's pleased with himself.  ;)

At 14.5 months, I'm too nervous about DS using "real" forks, I'm afraid he'd poke himself in the face!  I could give real spoons but the ones we have for him scoop things up fairly well - the biggest challenge right now is getting him to leave a bowl on his chair tray long enough to scoop things out of since it's pretty hard to use a spoon on blobs of things we put directly on the tray.

Oh I have always put blobs on the tray...I use bowls, but many times Weston will take it out of the bowl, put it on the tray (dump it or just relocate specific items to the tray) and then after a while, he starts working on the stuff off the tray...so at times I just forget the bowl completely...with practice he'll get it...

...I prefer to let MOST of the practice time happen during summer...I will have Weston eat outside in a plastic booster chair (that I can hose off when he's done, along with him) and then fill the kiddy pool and easy peasy clean up...When he's finished with his lunch, off to the kiddy pool for a rinse and fun...not so messy that way! ;) Along with practicing using a "REAL CUP" while in the bath...again, if he spills, no biggie, he's in the bath. ;)

I like the idea of practicing the "real" cup in the tub.  Any suggestions from anyone on teaching how to use a straw?  Since taking milk from a sippy (even his nuby ones) isn't going anywhere right now, I thought straws might be worth a try.
Oh boy, I can't wait to have the summertime here to do eating and hosing down outside, lol!  Gee, way up here that's only another 3 months away!   :P

Zach loves to drink out of a real cup and does great.

Yeterday he did not eat a single thing (no joke), well maybe 1 bite of something but not enough to count for.  He is still has this really bad cold.

So far today he has had:

Wake:  6 oz. milk
Breakfast:  6 bites of eggs, 1 little piece of french toast sticks, 2 bites of banana.

Wendy -

Zach - 3 1/2 yrs old. My sweet, loving, gentle boy that loves playing in the dirt!

Tyler - 17 months.  My very very spirited little boy.  Can't turn your back for a minute.  He is doing the cutest things now!  Loves to eat and climb!

Hello everyone.  Sorry to bust in on your thread but I had a quick (well kind of quick) question for you....

Right now I give mostly pureed food (jarred ones  :P).  I want to start giving more finger foods.  Right we give her a few finger foods (Gerber puffs, dried fruit, etc.) but not for the main part of her meal.

I don't cook that often so I need some simple ideas for breakfast, lunch and dinner (easy stuff  ;)).

I just need to come up with a menu of ideas to post so we know what to give her each day.

Does anyone have any ideas for us?  Thank you so much.   :D
